Halloween Scene

Halloween, "All Hallows'Eve", observed and revered at October's ending,

Religious in reverence to the saints, departed, this opinion is still pending.

Carving of pumpkins, Jack-o-lanterns, bobbing for apples, trick-or-treating,

Happy children with joyful faces, with the chilly breezes, time is so fleeting.

Costume parties galore, much candy in store, as entire blocks all celebrate,

While ghosts and goblins fly through the night, such horror all's to anticipate.

Haunted houses, "Haints" everywhere, as groups of kids march door to door,

Yelling "Trick-or treat", each house to greet, hosts not knowing what's in store.

Halloween is such a colorful scene, a time every child always looks forward to,

As all moms, dads watch after their own, a celebration by each family to pursue.

Trips in the car, seeing fields of corn stalks, Orange pumpkins siting all in a row,

Such a fitting end to October, once again, Halloween time, we all enjoy you so.

Interesting fact: in Ireland and Scotland, at Halloween, they carve out turnips instead of pumpkins as in the United States...

Oh boy I can hardly wait. We live on a street where most all children attend the same school and know each other -- hence so do the parents. We just have one great big fun fest. This was a great piece in anticipation. Thanks.

Very nice piece. I can see the beauty of Halloween in your words. Your words bring back memories of my time as a youth when I too dress up in creative costumes and fill my bags with sweet treats. But there is one part in your piece I would like to share some light on. The part about "a time every child always likes forward to". Because there is one child I know, who doesn't look forward to Halloween at all. No matter how much I try to show him the fun and the benefits for a child, he would not change his mind. In fact, every time we mention Halloween he says no every time. And now he has started making his own "No Halloween" signs and he shows them to us every time we mention Halloween. For some odd reason, Halloween just doesn't appeal to him.

Perhaps the child had a very bad experience or was frightened at this time of the year. Many fears and events happening to myself I held inside until I was grown, away from my parents knowledge. Hope all works out for the best. Thanks for your kind words. whonu.

Fun poem, whonu! We had quite a few little ones this year. They were so cute. Even their parents dressed up.

Love the painting at the end. Nice touch!
