He Sees No Dirt

Source

He sees

the world

Through

fresh eyes,

Innocent,

Untouched

by lies.

Observes

the snow

Fall slow

To the earth,

And he

doesn’t know

That there

is dirt

Beneath

the white

He just plays,

As the wind

sweeps by.

He sees

the trees

Bending low

To the earth,

And he glows.

With potential

And pure love

He doesn’t

believe

In a man

up above.

He sees me

His smile

defines glee

He is free

To just be.

He sees not

My envy.

I hope so. I will always teach him to try to keep his innocence and wonder.

Thank you for reading, as always, Bill = )

The innocence of youth! May it last a long while for this young man and be granted to children everywhere.

We are born this way... one might think that this is the way we were meant to be. Wide eyed in wonder at every new thing... what I wouldn't give to keep joy and wonder in the lives of us all.

Awesome poem.

HLPhoenix thank you for your kind words! I wish also that we could keep joy and wonder so easily. Having my son has renewed it somewhat in myself; its easy to forget how something simple can be so beautiful until a child stares in awe...

I have a 3yo grandson and wish I could bottle his innocence and sprinkle him with it when he is 15! Great poem, voted up!

Good evening my eloquent Elizabeth - this is a title to die for and how bittersweet these words are but as you know it's only when we get older and look back that we realize how really bittersweet our memories are.

I wrote a piece once that life went downhill after you left the highchair - lol - but my life is always on the up and up when I have the pleasure of visiting you and your wonderful evocative words.

Sending you a high five from two human hands and two sets of paws from my cats at lake erie time 10:09pm

That is perfect!! and sadly, true. I hope I can teach my son to hang onto the joys and wonder of life! Hoping you are staying warm in Canada on your lake = )

I often think about the innocence of childhood, especially as it relates to people. They have the ability to love so purely that they will love someone a million times over even if that someone has hurt their feelings, broken their heart, or chastised them.

That is so true, Shanmarie... I cherish his innocence and try to renew my own by seeing the world through his eyes.. Thank you for reading...
