He promised me (but failed to give).....A poem about a sad marriage

A marriage that has a dominate partner and a non-dominate partner are often fraught with sadness, heartache, and depression. Dominate partners try to make their partners something they can be proud of and show off to their peers; but they never think of what it might do to their partners because their partners don't usually count in their thoughts.

The lyrics below mark the sadness and heartache that always seems to be present in a dominate/non-dominate relationship.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He promised me it was for life.

He promised me I would have no strife.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He said I was his only love.

He said I was the best.

He gave me precious metals wove.

He said I deserved no less.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He promised me it was for life.

He promised me I would have no strife.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He took me to the parties gay.

He took me to the family stead.

He told me what to wear and say.

He told me I was pretty in red.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He promised me it was for life.

He promised me I would have no strife.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He grew angry when I tried to be me.

He said it wasn’t the best way.

He was mean when I asked to be free.

He told me I had to stay.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He promised me it was for life.

He promised me I would have no strife.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He gave more gifts of beauty.

He told me it was for peace.

He said it was his duty.

He told me I could say my piece.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He promised me it was for life.

He promised me I would have no strife.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He took me for a wife of trophy.

He made me give him all.

He said I was wrong and sloppy.

He said he’d make me better overall.

He promised me I would be his wife.

He promised me it was for life.

He promised me I would have no strife.

He promised me I would be his wife.

One day as I lay sleeping,

My love did come to my side.

He said he was tired of my weeping.

Then he smiled and said “good-bye”.
