High Country Blues ......

High country blues

Rhyme ice rims these high pine covered
hills in my northern treelines
And I watch as the cold grey hardwood trees exchange
moving cloudshadows

Across a leafless valley of windswept
forests even the cold yellow sunlight
runs away to warmer places
And I .....I feel alone

In the disguise of an outdoorsman
I spend my hours searching
But for what ?
Serenity .....peace or simply escape

I have though .....always found at least some
comfort in the chilled solitude
Yet the costs wen't ever worth it
were they ?

Escape from emotion in the form
of personal isolation
Does no good for the soul
in spite of the pleasures

And even in the finest company
I still catch glimpses of
the cold shadows along
the high country ridgelines

Ahh, the fresh air, the soft breeze , I can feel it now. the sounds of nature for the mind, a certain quiet that lets the our soul feel our own mortality. Colorado is beautiful right now.

thanks for the memory.

Outstanding. It's a beautiful poem, but it also strikes a familiar chord with me. I'm an only child, so being alone is somewhat normal for me. As a teenager and then adult, it seems I've been either been manically social or a total recluse with nothing in between. I've spent thousands of hours carefully thinking all things over, only to come up with more questions. lol

I'm a new reader, but you definitely have a gift my friend. Up, and awesome!

Sometimes it's good to just get away, many times i've found solace watching the river flow. Are we loners? I don't think so, we just love nature and perhaps we're a bit melancholy. Loved this!!

A lovely poem I can relate to, I love the open spaces of the outdoors. It's where we can connect with God and His wonderful creation. Thank you for a great, refreshing reminder.

Voted up and beautiful. To be among the solitude of nature. Images of the great outdoors and the wide open sky. Loved this. Passing it on.

Commendable poem my friend. I am someone who prefers the solitude and take every opportunity to enjoy it. My favorite times are walking in the surrounding woods in my back yard with my dog Bella. Great write...again!

ahorseback this is beautiful, and poignant...you obviously find solitude and beauty in your surroundings, but your poem seems to carry an undercurrent of loneliness in spite of the beauty, or maybe the sense that it would be even lovelier if shared with someone of like mind...., whether I'm right or not, this is stunning in its imagery, and eloquence. Voted up, sharing, awesome, beautiful and decidedly interesting in the emotions.... loved it! hugs, my friend.

D juris Stetser , Thank you mam, I grew up in a large and extended family and my idea of peace was to just get away from everyone from a young age . Its funny isnt it how we all react differently to solitude . I rose at five this am and found a fresh blanket of snow and the howling wind . Maybe that justdoes something to a man , good or bad . lonliness accompanies solitude at times ,for me at least . Thank you for your kindness and a big bear hug for you too !....Ed
