His Humanity Caged

Darkness felt like a thrill,

As he sat in a chair

Holding him-self still,

Something was there,

A shadow moved in an inebriated stagger,

A drunken swagger,

He just sat looking hollow-eyed,

Then he sighed,

And sighed some more,

As the shadows moved from the walls

To the floor,

That’s when all of reality falls,

And the fear within him calls,

The darkness surrounded the room,

And he was knee deep in gloom,

The room was night,

There was absolutely no light,

It was as if it sought out

The soul of God,

That was something he knew

Nothing about,

As his inner demons would shout,

Darkness crept into his soul,

His heart torn,

And within him a fire raged,

The devil was reborn,

His humanity caged,

When the devil came,

The human within him died there,

Like moths in a candle flame.

Very much enjoyed this, I hope the light will mix with the shadow and the omnipresent will be revealed.

Awesome, Dearest Frank! I love that . . ."His Humanity Caged", now that is a pretty cool title there, along with this very dark poem here. Oh, yes, those inner demons will shout that perverse speech and place those false imaginations in one's mind and thoughts, when darkness reigns in one's heart! Then, the door is wide open for the devil to step right on in to come steal, kill and destroy . . . and devour!

Excellent write!

Voted up +++ and sharing

(my sharing buttons are not appearing on my end, but I shall return, promise :)

God bless, Faith Reaper

You are the master, Frank, of the evocative title and the words which follow always live up to the title.

And yes I never miss an opportunity to tell everyone you are one of my all time favorite writers/poets anywhere, anytime , anyplace.

How's that for a ringing endorsement? lol

Hello Frank - Quite well done, and I think I agree with Vinaya about my favorite line . . . . "shadows move from the walls to the floor and all of reality falls." A terrific line. Blessings. Theresa

Dark ,brooding and mysterious. The mention of the devil gave me goose bumps. You could make a great Alfred Hitchcock like thriller from this.

Eventually, humanity caged becomes humanity destroyed, because of "something he know nothing about." Blame the devil. Deep!

Frank, I have come to expect the best from you always. Your held at high standards! LOL Voted this up, awesome, beautiful, and interesting. Frank, beautifully written. This subject always sparks my interest. There is certainly a whole other world out there, referring to death. So much that we don't know and understand. These things happen I am sure of it. Great poem from a great writer. Well done my friend. Take care Frank and see you around.

This reminded me of a question I was asked. Do I fear death? I said that I didn't tho I am concerned about its timing. I went on to say that I believed people should be more afraid of losing their life while they were still living, which is the truth for many here.

A combo of the Devil and Daniel Webster and Poe's the Tale-tale Heartbeat. That's what it seemed like here anyway. Evil and dark; the Nosferatu pic is well placed.

Ohh now this is creepy - and the Nosferatu photo is a beautiful touch!

Now we know why none of us ever really wants to confront either our own inner demons or the real thing! Loosing either your 'self' or your 'soul' is just far too scary for most - me included - but this poem has such a beautiful depth of fear as well as being scarily hypnotic and one that I will remember for a long time to come!

Absolutely awesome - voted up + shared!!!
