What shines from a soul,
laden with the intensity of earthly life,
when love is more dream than reality,
and hopes are tethered by imperfection.
What spark is dashed, subdued,
into a lamb of tolerance,
a flicker of what can be in a loving heart,
the potential of which goes far beyond the physical.
Treasured are the moments of intimacy,
when love's perfume pervades,
and egos and wills dissipate,
in the throws of selfless giving.
How courageous the commitment to love,
when all leads to disastrous past,
when struggle remains the antagonist of happiness,
and circumstance leads hearts far from truth.
Love in all its simplicity,
is the most complex ideal to attain in living,
always testing parameters,
and bleeding a heart dry in assessment.
Love, our most sought achievement,
requires at least, the bare core of commitment,
the arduous work and constancy of an open heart,
where reservations are cast aside in the name of love itself.
Paths are only rocky when strewn with debris,
the remnant past of broken hearts,
the doubts and fears that souls see not potential,
nor the blissful acceptance of love's purpose.
