How Old Science Fiction Films And TV Programmes Lead Us To Believe We'd Be Living In Space By Now

Watching those old films and TV shows

Where they go to, nobody knows

Just know that they went into space

Setting a trail for the Human race.

The impression we got was that pretty soon

A lot of people would be living on the moon

Or if we preferred to go to mars

We'd be driving around in those fancy cars.

We'd be going around at the speed of sound

On those machines that never touch the ground

Or you could even get a fast jet pack

That would get attached to your back.

We would just need a pill instead of food

The nutritional value is just as good

You could lock into your pod when you go to sleep

For years you'd be in it so deep.

They'd discover new life forms when out in space

Would they come in peace or to destroy the Human race

There was one little green women and they had to feed her

Because she used the old cliche, take me to your leader.

These are all the things that could have been for the Human race

Lots of quick travel and holidays in space

But as it is time has caught up with us too soon

There are no Humans settling on the moon

I must admit to liking my place of birth

And would much rather stay here on Earth

I would be quite happy to be staying here

Besides, it's got a much better atmosphere.

Hi sameerk, Thanks for the comment. As for the profile pic i don't understand who "us" is that is insulted. A lot of people find different pictures to be insulting but don't ask for them to be changed. Other people have found it to be amusing. I will get round to changing it but in my own time, when i decide. Michael.

Michael this was right on ... I don't think any one is going anywhere in a big hurry - but the inspiration is there! I too will stay in my own little nest...

As for the favored foot. I like that foot, not a callus in sight. I see no legs but if I did I doubt I would find them any more offensive then cleavage in a pink shirt. Stand your ground on that foot - besides I have elves working on hats for those toes come Christmas.

Hugs to you my friend as always!

Laurie

Laurie, Thanks a lot for your comments. Always appreciated. As for the offensive picture i think you summed it up perfectly. Mind you i might take you up on that offer of the hats for the toes as it might get too cold if i have to be like this for another year!

Thanks. Michael.

In arab countries, showing someone the sole of your foot is considered a horrible insult. FYI.

ThePelton, I thought your comment was a bit cryptic but i now assume it was about a comment that someone else made 3 months ago!!! My photograph is meant to be a bit of fun. If someone doesn't like it for whatever reason then i tend to think the problem is with them rather than myself. Usually if i don't like something - on TV, the internet, or hubpages itself i would just ignore it and not return to it. I certainly wouldn't comment on it because i do believe people can see things as offensive or an 'insult' for a large number of reasons.

I am not saying that I take it as an insult, just that if someone who didn't understand that you were doing it for fun saw it, that they might be insulted.

I understand that you don't find it insulting ThePelton, but as i said in an earlier comment i will probably get round to change the picture eventually. In the meantime people who are upset or insulted by it can easily move on to something else. My point still remains that i could be offended by pictures too but just choose to ignore it. Everybody has that option.

Oy, the controversy over your foot is growing. I think you should change your profile pic. Put two feet up! Nah, I like the one foot, it matches your style of slightly off-beat. Besides, we don't live in the Middle East, and since HP is in English, I think it's safe to say that other people should adapt to the format here. (Sorry, I rant when it becomes slightly political, I'll stop now).

Anyway, like the poem. I'm a sci-fi geek myself, and it's interesting to see how the space race has floundered in orbit and done nothing much else of what we were led to believe would happen. However, we do have communicators, the big thing dangling out of Uhura's ear: bluetooths and we also have those info pads (padd) they use on TNG. Also we are getting closer to replication technology (I wrote about that), so take heart - we are getting there. Pretty soon, the common man will be able to get into orbit. I'm still waiting for warp drive though.

Still, I agree, there's no place like home. If there was, would you or I really want to go there? Our planet is still beautiful.

Thanks a lot. Glad you liked it. Yes i forgot about the whole 'foot issue'. As you say maybe i should have changed the picture to one with both feet showing.

Thanks for the comments.
