He had seen this all before

Our time here is nothing but borrowed
from the lives lived before

The windows that we stand and stare from
reflect this evermore

The doors from which we pass the
thresholds and hinges warn

The shingles and the walls that stop
the wind paint peeled and torn

The loves the losses the offspring
to love with a touch that cares

These faces look familiar these dreams
and these nightmares

We've accomplished nothing that hase't
been done before

Yet off to work we go again off to love
on to war

What an endless timeless cycle
what an evil circle for man

Now and again we see ourselves
in the mirror elusive eternal

From the same flames of passion
fire and love infernal

As I walk away from the window so
I won't have to see this again

Yes we have been here before
a new beginning a new end

As a child I watched as an ageless man who lived his final days out on the front porch of his house , each day I walked past there , I wondered why , why doesn't he move , why can't he go and do things . why does he just sit and stare , what does he wonder about or see in the inner eye , as he ignores the waves from passing strangers and friends , what has his eyes seen that hold him arrested in the hours , sitting in the shade , staring blankly at time? Now I understand a little more though , he had seen all of this before .

OMG! This really opened my eyes. This poem is very enlightening. I understand perfectly what you mean. I am awestuck by your words.

This was brilliantly written and speaks volumes of truth.

This really is like my new favorite poem :)

Very nice style. Windows and mirrors -- and now thanks to you, hinges have an effect I cannot touch. Perhaps one day I will understand as well as you.

True for most of the world. Believe me, there is some comfort in it. Thank you.

Voted up and beautiful. Seen many an old person just sitting in a rocking chair rocking back and forth on their front porch.
