How to Haiku

A haiku is basically a short poem. The method originated in Japan. I consider it a gift from the Japanese. Haiku is about nature.

I try to keep my haiku poems nature related. There are times when I like to have fun when I haiku and express my admiration and fascination with unique shout-outs.

  • A haiku is based on 17 syllables.
  • The first line requires 5 syllables.
  • The second line is 7 syllables
  • The third line requires 5.
  • So it's 5/7/5

There are factual methods and English versions. This is the method I prefer. You could create a riddle. Create one or a few. Try to use as less filler words as possible. Be creative. Be inventive.

This form of poetry might sound easy enough, but it does require much thought and use of brain activity. I tend to refer to it as entertaining therapy.

However you haiku always remember one thing...to have fun!
