I AM WOMAN...by b. Malin

"I am Woman hear me Roar"...sang Helen Reddy so many years ago. Recently I heard that song sung once again on Colin Stewart's site, "Let's Talk Music and Cinema". And who doesn't know our Famous "Epigramman" on Hub Pages...If not Check him out, you're in for a real Treat. Ok, so as Helen sang, "I'm just an Embryo, with a long, long way to go"...It got me to thinking. I was once just an Embryo...Now really who thinks of themselves that way? Me. Just Humor me for awhile...and I'll share my Hub thoughts with you.

Now really you say... and I say, YES, REALLY...I know, none of us can picture their Parents in Love, or making Passionate LOVE together. Ew...But they did! And I'll go you one better, our KIDS our "Light of our LIves" feel the same way about us! I know my own father thought I'd had an "Immaculate Conception" when I told the family I was going to have a baby.

So there I was a few years later, as well as having had another "Immaculate Conception"...Hey watch it, that's my late father you're snickering about. ANYWAY, there I am with a Toddler by my side, and a baby on my knee, in my Bell Bottom Jeans, A "Hippie", a Flower Child..Singing at the top of my Lungs..."I am Woman, I am Invincible...I am strong". And I would tell my Sons, as they grew up... "You can do Anything"...and thank goodness they believed my words, and Helen's (I must give credit where credit is due) and grew up they did, into Wonderful, Strong, but Sensitive, young Men.

I did a little research and found out that Helen Reddy needed another song for her first album and co-wrote "I Am Woman" with Guitarist, Ray Burton, another Strong, Sensitive, Male. Bet you didn't know that! Well, I'm willing to admit that I didn't.

"If I have to, I can Face Anything"... Helen sang...and most woman have in their lifetime...Be it in Love, Birth, or the Death of someone close......and if we live long enough... we become, "Not a Novice any Longer". "I am Strong, I am Invincible". "Yes, I've come along way as a Woman, but I've still got a Long, Long, way to go, until I make my Brother Understand"...That's you guys...But deep down I think most of you do. In the End, we Mold one another.

Now when I hear the Song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"...it always makes me cry...Especially the line, "If Happy Little Blue Birds Fly over the Rainbow, Why than a Why can't I". Someday I will leave this world, and I think I'd like these two songs Sung. Maybe by those who are still standing...after all I'll probably be at least 110...scratch that...make it 120! So Sing Everybody Sing!

I think my favorite part of that song is

You can bend but never break me

cause it only serves to make me

More determined to achieve my final goal

And I come back even stronger

Not a novice any longer

cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul

I cry whenever I hear Somewhere Over the Rainbow too. My dad used to sing it all the time.

Enjoyed your hub!

Lovely hub, that song by Helen Reddy brought back some beautiful memories of the 70s. I was in college then and a budding feminist who became more ardent over the decades. They do not make songs like that anymore!

I am woman and I have got two ovaries. When they start to fail I get hot flushes and hot tempered and begin to hate all men BUT by some miracle I keep loving my per dog or cat. I am woman and I am strong an because I am woman men better say "you are right" at every argument. Men should deal also with the fact that women have problems.. because of men! LOL

Nice sentiment, I often yearn for the older music genre. It's soft and wonderful messages, evoking, tender, compassionate. It makes you wonder about some of the current culture of music and the messages contained therein.

I remember both those songs very well. I've sung Somewhere Over the Rainbow, but not I am Woman (doesn't fit my voice type)-but I've danced to it. I must admit that I trust my cat a lot more than I trust men...(actually, people in general cannot be trusted as much as we can trust our pets).

Very good! I hope we men have grown some since Helen sang that song. I just watched another Mad Men episode and it is embarassing to see the way women were treated when I was a young(er) man.

Things are getting better I think.

Oh yes I am right with you. Whatever happen we survive and each trouble or tragedy just makes us stronger. Love that song, think I have it on one of my hubs somewhere. I doubt Helen realised just how much that song would touch us all.

We can all fly if we have the courage to do so, and as for flying ove that rainbow I am not ready yet, I still have a lot to achieve.

A beautiful uplifting and inspiring hub.

Voting up all thway.

I laughed and sighed at this wonderful hub. I too remember having the babies..but four for me...a 6, 5, 3, and a baby..and making them sit on the couch to listen to me sing.hahaha I felt like the scene out of coal miners daughter where she is kicking the washer on the porch as she learns to play the guitar, but making her kids listen to her...lol

I miss those days..I was young but fun too..overwhelmed but so happy. I guess I am stronger...not so naive...and have wonderful memories too...and those days have made me who I am..the good and bad..hehe
