I Don't Understand...a poem
I Don't Understand
By Tony DeLorger © 2013
Who with intent,
would harm a life,
a pointless act of malice,
a purposeless path of hurt,
pain, and an end to innocence.
Who can justify such an act,
without empathy or remorse,
without a soul, just an ego,
bent on gain and preservation,
instilled in thought.
Who could have been in such darkness,
that darkness alone becomes a path,
where morality is lost to will,
and sight is narrowed to an end,
Who can be so bloated with self-righteousness,
that reason leaves the mind in disgust,
and actions are the stuff of the apocalypse,
heinous thoughts brought into being,
by a mind devoid of cost.
I just don't understand,
what it is within me that is lost to this reality,
so harsh and narcissistic these others,
as me of blood and bone,
yet alien in all else.
Who can live such a constrictive life,
where truth is manufactured,
from the spilt blood of collateral damage,
those innocent enough to be slain,
by the hand of a straight and brutal path.
Who can relate to gain when life is quashed,
tortured and disregarded by the soulless,
and where love hides in the shadows,
unable to bloom, or ever whisper,
for fear of waste and decimation.
If only we could accept one another in brotherhood and in compassion, and treat all life with respect. That would create a very different world.
