I Feel Bad for January.......

I do ........the days of the wolf moon
never see the long dusk at evening

But merely the slammed door of
daylight hours in grieving

And far ....so far away the sun only
finds the time to tease

Before the closing of the day
a beginning of the cold evening breeze

Somehow I have always known
january and I are one .....one and the same

Keeping the warmth at bay... isolating
our hearts from this living game

I climbed from the truck in
the darkness and stood looking aloft

The sudden shock of silence
the star light cold but soft

And strobing away ......silent shimmering
keep the moons eternal attention

The blue star of 'nord' ......my own name
forgive my lack of retention

The names of the stars to involved
like a room full of strangers

I can't remember the names all now.......
nor the numbers...but I do know the dangers

Not the time of year to survive
the cold can bring your death

The dark can steal your lifeblood
the cold will take your breath

I do feel bad for january and the
warmth it will never see

But I don't know why I care for her
cause she feels nothing for me

I like the way you also gave life to January in this piece, how you turned a table, but still didn't diminish or really distract the reader from what's really going on. Thanks for this.

This was beautiful. January is a misunderstood month and it's right in the middle of winter. We have very short, snowy and gray days that quiokly fade into dark nights.

There is a fresh crisp starkness about a mid winters night. And yes a silence for every living thing is curled up somewhere warm, not ventring out to scamper about or the shake the branches of a tree.

Yes I liked this poem.

Lovely, expressive and accurate! And here it is in the 70s one day and down into freezing the next. My bod never knows how to react. It's 77 at present but will dip again. I'm still bundled up in my Cuddl Duds and fleecy sweats.

What a beautiful poem and full of truth. It reminded me of the verse about, "pray you do not need run in the winter". I'm sure I did not get that word for word. I think ytsenoh said it well, you gave January life, made her seem an entity, living and with a will all her own.

Very beautiful and kind of mystical too. January or the winter months are quieter, more mellow, more introspective for me.

This is my favorite: :)

" I do feel bad for january and the

warmth it will never see

But I don't know why I care for her

cause she feels nothing for me "

Wow, I realize that this might be the coldest time of year for many people around the world...I have one word of advice...COME TO JAMAICA! just kidding...lol

I like the flow of this poem, even though I can feel the chill of it..lol

Yes January indeed can be the wickedest of the calendar year. It brings blowing snow and icy roads and highways. It's lick can chill you to the bone. The Canadian Prairies have their taste of its blast right now. We are toughened every year by it's blessing:-) on us. A wonderful poetic piece full of imagery. I felt a chill as your words whistled around in my head. Voted Up.

You bring the month alive, Ahorseback, a living breathing thing, though icy breathed and unfeeling.

Through your words I could almost grow to like this winter month, almost.

Incredable imagery, a silvery, starry winterscape painted with words.

My votes to you, master painter.

I wasn't expecting this, although I am not sure what I was expecting. Maybe a traditional disquisition on cold weather and bad climates. This is altogether lovely, but cold, restrained....as it should be. The morphing of the characteristics oc the icy distant season and month into the characteristics of a man was sheer genius. I read it twice just to savor the words and sounds.

ahorseback profile image

Phdast7 , Thank you ! Thats really nice of you!and You didnt say you read it twice just to understand it !lol.....:-}
