I Found My Thrill

Joey was a man

Who enjoyed life

Like no other

He traveled about

Seeking jobs wherever he went

Be it a ranch hand, a construction worker

Even digging a ditch was just fine

Each and everywhere he went

He found his thrill

A new woman to love and possess

And then he hit the road again

There was Mary

A lovely woman indeed

He took her up to Harmony Hill

He wined her and dined her

In the sunshine

When he knew that her eyes were shining with love

He took her home

And kissed her so right

She waved good-bye

Said see you tomorrow

But he knew that with the light of day

He would be long gone

Off to another town

Another job

And another love

Oh, no Joey wasn’t cruel

He also wasn’t kind

He was hurting so bad

But wouldn’t admit why

The following town

He’d find another beauty

This one was Cindy

He found another thrill

Took her up to Honeysuckle Hill

There they had a picnic

Beneath the full moon and stars

Just the two of them

And the love in her eyes

Cindy vowed to love eternally

Joey just smiled and nodded

He left her that night

And knew she’d dream of him

He was already thinking of the next town

Where he would settle down

For just a short while

And find himself another thrill

But that night he dreamed

A dream he hadn’t in a long while

He dreamed of the woman

Who had done him wrong

But in the dream she wasn’t laughing

In the dream she was crying

And he came to realize

That it had all been a mistake

She hadn’t failed him

He had failed her

He hadn’t asked why

He hadn’t stopped to think

He had just packed up and left

And he had continued moving on

Ever since

When he awoke he knew

That it was time to go back

To go back to the love

He had left behind

To go back and seek forgiveness

And to marry the woman

Who had stolen his heart

And so he hopped the first train

Heading on back east

Heading on back to the country

And the beauty of the Virginia hills

There he would find Rosie

If she still was waiting

If she would forgive him

It was time to go home

And as the miles shortened

His heart leapt more and more

He prayed and he hoped

And then he was home

The rolling country side spread out before him

And he knew what he had to do

That afternoon Rosie found a letter

In that dear and familiar handwriting

That made the tears begin again

But she knew that she would meet him

And she knew that she would forgive him

And she knew that they were destined to be

So she headed out of the town

And climbed all the way

Up Blueberry Hill

At first she didn’t see him

Then a plane flew overhead

Behind it was a banner

It said I found my thrill

Up here on this hill

I love you Rosie

Will you marry me still?

And then there he was

And Rosie knew she too had found her thrill

Up there on Blueberry Hill

And they were married up there

Close to the heavens

As they said their vows

Devoted to one another

For now and ever more

Nicely done. I thought this one wasn't going to be a happy ending. Then you turned it all around and he saw the truth. Really enjoyed it.

Aw, this is very clever to go with Fats Domino's song.

I, too, was surprised with the happy ending, but that's the kind I like best!

I am such a hopeless romantic; thus, I thoroughly enjoyed your poem.
