I Haven't Finished Yet

By Tony DeLorger © 2012

God, if you take me now,

I'll be pissed,

I just haven't finished,

there's bits I've missed.

I try to be healthy,

but what about pies,

pastries and ice-cream,

chocolate and spice.

I try to be civil,

polite, act with respect,

but what about ass-holes,

on me they reflect.

I try to be calm,

in the car and on the street,

but my patience is challenged,

with everyone that I meet.

I try to generous,

to all I love and protect,

but so often they're selfish,

and by me they neglect.

I've learned to forgive,

every sling, shot and remark,

put it down to some symptom,

of psychological bark.

I can accept all my faults,

my qualms and my dreams,

but when people discount them,

I just split at the seams.

Disappointment has followed me,

with all whom I know,

but I guess my expectations,

are beyond what is sown.

I try to be tolerant,

and live within the rules,

to accomplish my dreams,

with skills and proven tools.

But often the world bleeds me,

all energy drained,

the balance I sought,

only exists in my brain.

But no matter the path,

on this journey I've set,

don't take me right now,

God, I haven't finished yet.

If I'm done with my work here

please whisk me away

For I'll never be finished

with all I've postponed;

Release me from self each

and every fare day

For my diseased mind still

tells me its best to get stoned.

Because your intention is good, God will listen to your plea - I hope, I pray.

I understand your frustrations. Truly, this is an imperfect world, but like you I won't give up doing what I believe is the will of my God.

Glad to have dropped by. Thanks for the prayer poem.
