I Heard Voices Yesterday

I Heard Voices Yesterday

I heard thoughts in my head yesterday,

Telling me words that I really shouldn't say.

Angry, mean voices, that aren't really me

Telling me things that I should do and should be.

Thoughts that reminded me of the past,

Came and went so fast.

Made me want to do things I know I shouldn't do

But they made me remember you.

I wanted to die, no longer to live my life

I wanted to do anything to no longer survive.

Just because, just because I remembered you

And all the things you used to do.

But today, now that I am thinking right

And darkness has turned into light

I think of those who actually care,

Those who have always been there.

Suicide isn't the right way

And I am here, I am here to stay.

Sure I would love, I would love to forget

All of the sorrows and pain that comes with it.

But I will be strong I won't give up, not today.

Even though I heard voices yesterday.

Cresentmoon2007: I am glad that you made it through, once again, your "dark night of the soul," which often enshrouds us when we least expect it and are least prepared.

It is amazing, isn't it, the power that the memory of one person can exert over us?

It is a blessing to be able to express your "dark night of the soul" in such clear poetry, for, as Robert Frost suggested, "The best way out is always through" (A Servant to Servants). You worked your way through into the light!

Kind regards, Stessily

Great write. The voices I hear are my conscience telling me, I can survive this- Things are going to get better- and don't give up, life is already temporary, you must make the most of what you have while you have it.

I think that type of voice is one that is heard by many... But I also know the voices that are more than a conscience speaking. I had a friend who suffered from schizophrenia, unfortunately he could not resist the voices he heard when he decided to stop taking his meds and the result of his choices resulted in a violent attack that ended our friendship and changed who I was and how I saw the world. I wrote a poem about that night- I learned to survive one warm frigid night... Being that you have an interest in mental illness-perhaps it might interest you?

Voted this up and Awesome, your emotion and expression is great, and the way you write it draws the reader into your writing. Thanks for the share and I am glad you have found clarity.

These are indeed the type of voices that I am talking about, literally things I am hearing but not my conscience. And yes I would be interested.

How can you do this? Where from you get these ideas. I am impressed.

Thank you. I get the ideas for most of my poetry from real life situations, from my mental illnesses.
