Losing And Gaining

I booked a ticket

and left my family

I packed my bags

and left my friends

I collected memories

and left my love

This one-way ticket

flew me far away

These bags with clothes

were everything I owned

The memories I had made in life

almost stopped me from leaving

A new adventure

was ahead of me

A new place

would be my home

A new friend

would come into my life

How could I have known

that I would miss

my family

my friends

my love

that much

that I thought

I would die

How could I have known

that

the great adventures

my beautiful home

the friends I made

were things

that would save me

from dying

I lost something

I gained something

I have no regrets

I know now

that some things

are meant to be

If I could do it all over again

I probably would

Oh Made, without a doubt this is something most of us can relate to. In fact, I've done it several times in my life and your poem beautifully captures the conflicting emotions that are inherent in such a move. Great job my friend!

The first time to leave was, for me, the hardest time. Thank you so much Bill!

Hi blaise25, you are probably right.

This is beautiful! I love how you captured the emotions. This poem made me think a lot. When you lose something, you gain something, but if you don't risk it, then you'll never know. In the end, it's all worth it. As far as family, you will never lose them.

Beautifully done. We have to have the courage to move on, leaving everyone behind certainly took courage. Beautifully expressed and well written. Voted up.

The only thing that people and time have in common is that they must move forward. People have something time doesn't though, people can move back! Great poem by a great writer and I look forward to your next work.

Hi tillsontitan, we all take that step in life when we move on. For some it's a small step. For some it's bigger. Thank you for commenting and voting!

Hi jonmcclusk, thank you for yet a great comment. You are so right. I actually moved back many years after I left and realized the time had moved forward. :)

Made, this is a beautiful, heart-touching poem.

"How could I have known that I would miss this and that..."

But at the end "I lost something, I gained something, I have no regrets..."

So sad, though beautiful and true...

Voted up!

MartieCoetser, it's sad but it's the truth. The good thing is that it's easier to remember the good things than the bad things. Thank you for your comment and for voting!
