I Wanted to Write Something .........

Write What's in Your Heart.

I suppose it's the ultimate wish , dream or direction of any "wanna be writer" , To write something profound . Some poem , some story or essay , sometimes I suppose , it's the needs , the needs that evolve from emotions from the desire to express how we feel. And , I don't mean physically ,how we feel !
I think it was the great novelist C.S.Lewis who wrote , "That we read to know that we are not alone " ........This is a profound and insightful statement , and I'm sure someone may already have written this somewhere , but I would also say this...."We write to know that we are not alone ", Quite often I see in the forums or in some hubs as well, This very thing beginning to take place , in a poem or story or even in the hubs that are written in the , all too often , illusive chase for the dollar or for recognition .
In my experience here at Hub Pages , That ! Aloneness , is what I believe is perhaps the single most important ingredient of a beginning writer , or even those with more of a "trained" writers education in their background. The need to reach out to touch, and to be touched ,by another person !
I have also , just like in my own case , met people whom are searching for someone to say , thats really nice ! Think about this for a moment , Don't you like it when someone hugs you , or when you run into someone that you know and they speak your name ? I , for one , many times in my life , have had that happen out of surprise and yet it always leaves me feeling that , wow , he [or she ]knows me ! " Or , as a man , I can't tell you how nice it is or how it affects me when a woman puts her hand on my arm or hand when they speak to me .
I think its all about wanting to be 'known " in some way , to be recognized . Hey , there's nothing worse than walking into a room full of people and being ignored , either purposely or not. The difference being walking into that same situation and having one of those " me" experiences , where it just seems that everyone notices and speaks .....or touches you in a way that leaves you inspired , inspired by being "known ".  And so , this is for all of you ! who have made me feel ....known!

                                            To write
I picked up the pen  and then put it
                                 back down .....
                                 A  storm of lonlyness  had
                                 gathering  slowly around
A storm that just seemed to
go on and on and on......
                                 One long  storm of darkness
                                 before a forgiving dawn
But then came dawns light.... just grey
                                 in it's forming
And in the new born day
                                 a sunlit warming
Lifting the weight of the pen
it's not like I'm not known
                                 I began writing again  and
                                 found out ....I'm not alone

I enjoyed your piece. You raised some good points. I suppose there's nothing wrong with writing to be known or reading to know that there are others out there. It can be encouraging if needed.

I write because I have always been writing, since I was about ten: started with a journal which I still have. Over the course of many years I continued to write for fun, because I loved doing it. I make no money from it and I can care less about being known.

I think people can write for different reasons and as long as you love doing it, you can become good at it. Love makes a difference. Cheers!

I guess I forgot to mention that my friend, for the pure love of writing! As a lot of people do anything for. Those born to any such enjoyment are probably as lucky as you are. I am happy for you. I too write for no money although ? Maybe some day. Be well.

CS Lewis is very special for me. I have read many of his books beyond Narnia and appreciate him more with every one. His statement about reading is one I agree with completely. The first time I saw the library, I was struck by the opportunity to visit the thoughts of people who had lived over a thousand years before me. It's like having the opportunity to 'know' people; how they think and what they feel in such an intimate way is suddenly there on the pages of a book. For me, it isn't the books that are considered old friends as much as the authors.

Writing is so many things but ultimately it comes down to one thing for me. I was here. I felt, thought, lived, loved just like all the rest and you, dear reader, are not alone. We are all connected. Call it giving back, call it ego, call it what you will but for me it is as essential as air. I am one little molecule looking at the next and imagining what is the whole, of which we are such an important part. And we are important, each and every one of us. So write on!

How true, reading did make me feel connected during my younger years, like I was part of the characters of the book. I think when we write in a blog or a community like Hubpages, whether we are conscious of it or not, - or admit it :) - the interaction between the readers and writer, moves the writer to continue writing. There is something about feedback that lets us know, how our words may have affected (or not) the reader. This also applies to forums. It can be encouraging and fun!

I write like I read. My mother used to be amazed at the way I would become so engrossed in a book that the world around me ceased to exist. She had to tap me on the shoulder to pull me back into her reality.

I write the same way. My wife says that I can't hear her when I'm in the middle of writing a story.

I read to escape and I write to escape (with apologies to my poor wife!)

Great Hub!

Absolutely beautiful. I am touched by your words-that humans want recognition and connection is a common thread. I have experienced, as I'm sure we all have, the loneliness of not being seen or heard.

I believe in writing as it finds solutions every step of the way. Venting, explaining, creating is every bit of therapy between the writer and his or her words. Having the ability to receive and experience comments like here on Hubs does do many things for each and everyone of us. It is a community that is run on one simple factor... a desire to express. You do it so well, and your words thankfully are shared for your hubs provoke deeper thoughts within your readers. I know I started out on here purely to write never knowing that others would take an interest in anything I had to say. Through their comments somehow I have grown and enjoy reading yours and others' hubs broadening my visions and most times it elicits a feeling to share...Thanks ahorseback this is a nice hub causing much reflection,
