Emotions man the Watchtower.......

There are times when a veil of wonder
sinks it's hooks deep and I know
I reach for the pen then the
paper .....a stream begins to flow

I sift through the coals within
for the warmth they can provide
I need the last glow of the coals
to stir the fire .....as old secrets run and hide

"No one knows what it's like to
be the bad man " .......a song way back when
But I always wondered ......did
you write that for me my friend

"Behind blue eyes" Athough no.......
they aren't as empty as can be
......and finally as though reborn
looking within the darkness...... I see

Such is the magnetism of knowing looks
watching from shaded forests
Opposing poles fighting the touch
a professional rhetorist

Moving hearts as much as targets
as they run the other way
I guess it's just the boredom .......
a poet with no words to say

Light the lamp and turn up the wick
think of the lines of Frost
Oh hell ..... turn it off tonight and watch the
fire ....tally up my loss

There are so many times now that the
feelings lie hidden inside
Feeding the soft warmth of the woodstove
the snow falls outside

Tormented are the souls of darkness
the sunlight hurts my eyes
Thats what I get for searching in caves
that should be no surprise

Breaking the lock on a strongbox
many a musty memory lies shaking
The emotions must run to catch up
what is the use in waiting

I feel so much older ........ aging the writer
not knowing is showing it's signs
When will this yearning  ever end ........
when I've forgotten all the lines?

According to Ray Bradbury the more you write the more you remember. I suppose the more we remember the more we write, so it is kind a a cycle that feeds on itself.

Let's hope the yearning never ends, and let's pray that the words never cease.

Beautiful, the words escape me to say what your poetry has invoked.

Blessings and hugs,

Laurie

Ah, this is one to think on ahorseback! The lines..."Breaking the lock on a strongbox

many a musty memory lies shaking" really are so real to me. Those musty memories cause me to write many volumes and tear up many pages!

Hyphenbird, sometimes I need to just save the line or two that matters and throw the rest away, much like the thoughts and memories that I have. The worst part for me is not finding the words ......Be well.

Obviously, in not finding, you find what needed writing. beautifully done!

A single key breaks open that strongbox that holds the thoughts waiting until there is strength found to look within. What is the use in waiting?... only Pandora knows...

"Breaking the lock on a strongbox" so poignant and it reverberates in soulfulness. I to grapple with past issues and that's when the wick burns low and wax stains my desk mixed with tears. Pandora's box once opened is very difficult to lock, I have to lock it quickly after use.

Saddlerider , so true and such are the difficult days ! Sometimes my own candle burns down and what do we do but go on and on. Be careful though of hiding these things away! Be well my friend.
