I dreamt of the whales .........my 500 th hub!

They found me coming awake with a start
And we all realized at once

The answer has always been
staring me right in the soul

Why do the whales and dolphins breach
the oceans surface waters

Wouldn't you think they would live
content beneath the watery abyss

After all it's only natures way of protecting
the best of us

But as she rolls away from the gentle breakers
her eye catches me by surprise

And in that one look came a story told
a million times before

One look of a watery eye ....as if she was just
through
crying on my shoulder

"Because we are just so happy to be alive"

Hi ahorseback.

A great hub that you've written.

Maybe they breach the surface to see what the human race for a stupidity to this planet have done again.

Congrats on your 500th hub.

Take care.

Congratualtions on the 500th! This is special that way and in its subject, these incredible intelligent beings.

I hope that efforts to communicate with whales and dolphins on something besides an intuitive level succeed. They have much they could teach us.

Congratulations on number 500 neighbor. Your milestone is nearly as big as your seafaring subject.

I love whales and their apparent affinity to us lesser species.

This is a fine poem I'm sure they would appreciate.

Congratulations on your 500th hub! WOW! Your photos are lovely too!

I love the romantic reason for their comng to the surface and I believe it is so. However there's a phsysiological reason too. Whales, dolphins and porpoises are all cetaceans, which are air-breahing through lungs just like we and most other mammals are. When they need to breathe, they must rise to the surface and get their lungs filled with air. They're warm-blooded, give birth to live offspring, breast-feed them and the species even have hair. That just makes it more romantic, doesn't it?

The tears aren't just in the eye of the whale, Ed.

This is lovely. I feel a special affinity for whales and dolphins, our aquatic cousins. The first gift I bought for my future wife was a record album "Songs Of The Humpback Whale". Tops on my bucket list would be the chance to share a bit of ocean and time with such a magnificent and mysterious creature.

This is so well written...such a perfect piece for your 500th hub. It's almost ironic, the wonderful evolution of your writing culminating in a poem for whales, who eschewed terra firma for the oceans...whose limbs became fins and whose nostrils migrated to the back of their heads.

Your poem is wonderful. Congratulations on reaching such a milestone. Your quality certainly matches the quantity.

Write On neighbor!

You captured the mystery of the dolphins with your poem. I almost read a book about dolphins but got to busy so returned to the library. Oh, well. :)

When we are young, we need and want too much to take the time to be happy because we are alive, breathing, feeling air caressing our skins, feeling breath enter our noses to go all the way down to the floors of our lounges....

I often cry because I am happy and enjoy privileges such as listening to beautiful music, reading beautiful poems like this... and and and

Voted up and thought-provoking...
