Birth of America "I have but one request"(Poem)

Bombs bursting in air
Bombs bursting in air
Brave men
Brave men
Civil War
Civil War
Fighting evil in the world
Fighting evil in the world
Pledge of Allegiance
Pledge of Allegiance
congress
congress
Blessed is the Nation whose God is Lord
Blessed is the Nation whose God is Lord

I was born on a hot summer day on the fourth of July

With the rockets red glare and bombs bursting in the sky

People from around the world became part of me

Songs have been written celebrating my liberty

Across the pond where so many were descendant

To become the brave men who made me independent

They revered God Almighty and formed a bonding pact

And created a document to assure my existence stays intact

My people soon became divided and fought a civil war

To assure every man has freedom from shore to shining shore

The blood of so many stained my precious land

To keep liberty among us, they took a lasting stand

Soon there after more of my people fought once again

Around the world they went so that evil would not win

They were willing to die to keep our freedoms safe and secure

Liberty is deeply rooted in me now, at least, I that I thought for sure

But then something began to transpire across my precious land

Worshiping God in all my schools was soon being banned

Singing my Hymns, waving my flag and standing for what is right

Is barely being tolerated by the grandchildren of those who won the fight

The men elected to office, who took an oath to my sovereign name,

Are corrupting my entrusted framework into a dreadful shame

They spend my children’s money on issues to assure

Keeping themselves employed so only they can endure

As your Country, your sweet land of liberty, I have but one request

That we may return to the days where we were once so very, very blessed

To pray to the Lord Almighty, that as One Nation we will stand

And to bestow His mighty blessings upon my beautiful land

About half way through your poem was where common sense started dying a slow and painful death.

Great poem by a patriot.

A lovely poem that can be appreciated by all. The words can be represented to other nations. It rings true also of Englands past and my own views of my country. We must all move on but not at the expence of leaving our past behind. Voted up and awesome + 1 new follower.

C.Merritt,

You've said it like it is. And, it's a shame how the minority can wag the tail. Unfortunately it's accomplished with the help of the liberals and Supreme Court Dictators. All we Christian Americans must join the fight to restore our Constitutional rights. I thought the thousands of other young men I joined to fight in FDR's war, was to save our freedoms. Our present Administration; which obviously is not Administrating, "for the people," as was their elected duty, hopefully will be replaced in 2012. In mmy book, the term "Liberals" should be classified as Pornographic and never uttered in mixed company!

Bob, nothing you said that I disagree with....you have said it all. Folks, Bob is a WWII vet and has been around the block a few times and speaks with much wisdom.

Bob Thanks for your service to our country and thank you for coming by and leaving me a kind comment.

WOW! What a wonderful tribute to this great nation of ours.

After I was about half way through it, my eyes began to moisten.

Thank you, CM.

Hi feenix,

This one just kind of came to me and rolled off of my fingers after a long day of reflecting about how I feel we need God's blessings to return to this nation as it once was.

I really appreciate your support and friendship.

CMerritt . . .LOVED THIS HUB. You made me PROUD to be a Christian American! A new term we better start using. Voted up and all but FUNNY. I admire you for writing this. Just look at the number of comments you have received...that tells me just how good you are. Sincerely, Kenneth Avery, from a rural town, Hamilton, in northwest Alabama that makes you think of Mayberry on the Andy Griffith Show. I am proud to be a fan and follower. God smile on you and bless you.

Kenneth,

I love Mayberry! My all-time favorite town...how awsome you get to live there.

Thank you for your very kind words, I deeply appreciate it. I also agree we sure could use that term Christian American more often.

Blessing to you, and thanks for making my day.

Chris

Chris...my hometown of Hamilton, Alabama, in northwest Alabama only LOOKS like Mayberry. I WISH I COULD live in Mayberry alright. A sheer paradise on earth. Thanks, Chris. God bless you.

Chris, You should think about joining Indiana poetry organization. It would give you the opportunity to develop your poetry writing skills. And there are a lot of contests you can enter. Don't expect to win too much at first, but think of it as the opportunity to learn and grow as a poet.

You have a fine poem here, and some talent that should continue to develop and grow. Keep up the good work

CMerritt profile image

CMerritt 5 years ago from Pendleton, Indiana Author

Don, I will check out the Indiana poetry organization, but I am by NO means a poet. this is only my second or third crack at it...I really appreciate the very kind words of encouragement...I'm not sure what is next, I never took writing TOO serious until I came here, so everything is new to me and I am having a wonderful time learning from folks like you.

Thanks,

Chris
