I should have been there .....

For Jerry

Yes , when the blues caught up with you
and you knew not where to turn
Or the anxiety blindsided you leaving only
greying ashes after the burn

And when you sceamed out for help
and silence echoed in the trees
What about the time that life turned itself
around and found you on your knees

Though without my meager input
you found some peace in his great plan
As you humbled me again showing up
with a bible in your hand

And yet never once since
did you lay that beauty asside
The humble man in his work clothes
with an easy and simple pride

You liked something about the
arts I saw it in your attempts to draw
And you questioned most of the authorty
I wonder what you saw

You asked me once for one of my paintings
I had not one to show
I would now .... all the paintings of life
if only you didn't go

Of all the regrets .......I wish I'd been there
when mankind let you down
Yet I'll do everything I can if
you forgive my not being around

Beautiful! 'I wish I'd been there when mankind let you down', I understand this completely and surely there are many of us that make this very same wish. God Bless

Very touching and I can tell it is from the depths of your heart. I have often expressed such sentiment to friends that suffered alone. Beautifully done.

Sigh. I've been there and felt a similar regret for someone. Beautifully expressed. Thank you for sharing this very personal experience.

Voted up and beautiful. When a loved one passes on we always think back and there always seem to be some regrets. But hey, believe me they don't matter now. He knows it and he will go on loving you forever as long as you remember and hold him in your heart.

It is wonderful to be able to reflect. Guilt is only the ugly head of grief. He thought the world of you, and you were there for him, I know it
