ICATEEBICATEE BOO A Valentine Story
(IK ah TEE BIC ah TEE BOO)
Icatee Bicatee Boo lives in the Hurley Woods, located in Kaufman County, Texas. This is county lore and cannot be verified by official records. Boo is said to be a soft, hairy nearly invisible creature that makes this loud clicking noise when he is disturbed by trespassers. Only one living person in the area has claimed to have had contact with Boo. That was eighty-two year old Uncle Jake, who lived with his grandson, his wife and little Timmy, five years old and greatly loved by Uncle Jake. Uncle Jake told Timmy stories all the time. Some real, but most pure make believe from Uncle Jake’s vivid imagination. Little Timmy believed them all and worshiped his Grandfather, known to everyone as Uncle Jake. Timmy’s mother kept telling him not to believe Uncle Jake’s stories, but Timmy paid no attention to that advice. One day Timmy asked Uncle Jake about Icatee Bicatee Boo and how he could see him. Uncle Jake said that Boo was difficult to find and usually only by accident. When he was five years old he was walking in the woods with his father, looking for a bee tree. He stopped under a big oak tree and placed his hand on the tree to rest. There was instant commotion and this clicking sound. He tried to run but fell down. He felt a flutter and light touch on his left cheek. That clicking voice seemed to say “Ikatee Bicatee Boo, Little Jake I got you.” He was so scared he jumped to his feet and ran to tell his dad about Boo. His dad just laughed at him and told him to put a rein on his imagination. So did his mother, but the next morning,Valentine Day, a heart shape appeared on his left check. Inside the heart were the words “I LOVE YOU”. He showed it to his mom, but she only saw a red spot on his cheek. He realized that only the person touched by Boo could see the heart, except, maybe, another person who also had been touched by Boo. Timmie asked Uncle Jake how he could find Boo. Uncle Jake told him it was too dangerous for him to go the Hurley Woods alone and he would have to get his father to take him to that big oak tree by the spring. along the deer trail. Timmy said okay, but he knew his father would not take him. Uncle Jake dozed on the porch and by late afternoon Timmy resolved to find Boo. He went down the path to the pond and crossed the dam into the Hurley Woods. He walked for some time but had not seen that big oak tree. He stopped to look around and saw the spring trickling water down the hill. Suddenly it seemed very dark in the woods and he was very scared. There was a big tree near him and he leaned against it to get his bearing. A loud fluttering and a very loud clicking sound startled him so much he started to run home. He tripped on a tree root and fell to the ground. He felt a flutter and light touch on his left cheek and that loud clicking sound seemed to say. ICATEE BICATEE BOO, TIMMY JONES, I GOT YOU. Timmy jumped up and ran all the way home. His cheek felt warm. He ran to his mother and said, “look, look, Boo kissed my check, feel it, mom, it is warm”. His mother looked at him and touched his cheek and then examined it more closely. “Just a red spot Timmy, maybe you hit it on something.” Timmy ran to the living room where Uncle Jake was watching TV. “Look, look Uncle Jake, Boo kissed me”, cried Timmy pointing to his cheek. “I see,” said Uncle Jake, “you really did find him”. Tomorrow is Valentine,s Day, Timmy, a heart will show on your left cheek and only you or I can see it. Inside the heart will be the words I LOVE YOU. You must honor that heart by helping others all your life. You will hold important positions in the community and people will look to you to protect their welfare. Next morning, Timmy rushed to the bathroom and saw the heart on his cheek. He wasn’t sure what it said, but it looked like I LOVE YOU, just as Uncle Jake had told him. He ran to Uncle Jake’s room and looked at the slumbering snoring man and to his surprise there was the heart on Uncle Jake’s cheek. He wanted to tell his mother, but Uncle Jake had told him that no one who had not seen Boo could see the heart. Timmy was happy and he ran to his mom and said "HAPPY VALENTINE's DAY, MOM, I LOVE YOU". His mother laughed and hugged him tight and said “HAPPY VALENTINE,s DAY TIMMY, I LOVE YOU TOO." FROM UNCLE JAKE, TIMMY AND BOO, A HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY TO YOU.
