Into the Dark Abyss

Into The Dark Abyss

Vampire stories surround us today

From picture shows to games that we play

I wonder sometimes why imagination can stray

Towards the occult, and why thoughts go that way

Is it fascination for things of the night?

Between good and evil and the constant fight

Our curiousness for things once thought taboo

The intrigue with horror that others might do

I think perhaps it’s more an inward desire

As we venture into the world of vampires

To dabble with in things considered askew

And convince our minds that it’s ok to do

Sure we know inwardly they don’t really exist

But it somehow pulls us deep into their abyss

that creatures survive from drinking fresh blood

And dwell in graveyards beneath mire and mud

Is it just entertainment and fanciful dreams

set forth in stories and movies and things?

We escape to a world arye from our own

And into a new one our minds are thrown

So for just a brief moment in our propitious lives

We experience a thrill from what others contrived

and escape into a world where Vampires thrive

Into the dark abyss where night creatures abide

AMAZING! You illustrated one of humankind's darkest desires in a perfect way.

Even though I know vampires do not actually exist (in the traditional sense) - I've written a few pieces on them.

I'll be sure to check out more of your work soon.

Beautiful poem, capturing the darker side of our nature's desires. Excellent rhythm backed by a great (and true; so, so true) idea. Bravo!
