Imprinted yet Forgiven

By Tony DeLorger © 2012

Indelibly imprinted on my mind,

those who have forsaken me in word or in kind,

whose lives have been torn by their needs or their past,

who have cast aside truth with hurt to impart.

Their flailing uncontrolled lives through no fault of mine,

has dragged me through deserts, brimstone and fire,

and in their defence I have stood, played a part,

in folly and pain and in drama an art.

The worlds that I’ve learned cannot be removed,

and in that I am thankful, my healing improved,

with sight from obsession and wounds from denial,

I’ve surfaced better off and with wisdom and guile.

Yet my rivals are strewn, from one battlefield to the next,

continuing behaviours as if blighted or hexed,

learning nothing of life or their self-imposed doom,

for all of their blame on deaf ears consume.

Forgiveness is long and an arduous task,

of those who have damaged, in love and remark,

who have taken their egos or their child within,

and let go of good sense and dabbled in sin.

But with time and with learning these ghouls of my past,

their footsteps now weathered, their words could not last,

for life is too short and the glory profound,

to be immersed in self-loathing or the words of self-doubt.

Like specs of pure light we touch one another’s souls,

sometimes for good with some truths to be told,

pain is just warning of a lesson to learn,

in life’s vast procession a place to be earned.
