In Need Of Water

I Can Taste It

When my mouth is dry and my tongue lays lifeless and still

My mind flutters with refreshing memories that make my body shake

Hoping soon to bring to reality

What for now is only a series of thirst quenching thoughts

I look for a chance to drink but no options

So I will have no choice but to wait

The drink that was so easily found now is rare

I hold a new appreciation for the most common of all drinks

As my lips become stiff and my mouth parched

I look for the earliest opportunity to replace my liquids

It is amazing how are attitude and perspective can change

I feel irritable and uneasy

My plans are refocused around my well being more than my leisure activities

My reoccurring thoughts are now more dominant than ever

Forcing my body to be sluggish and tired

I feel the sweat on my forehead

Using my hand trying to cool my body down

At last I no longer have to wait

As my first instinct is to drink as fast as I can

My mind tells me to slow down

Take small sips

I feel the water trickle down my throat

One of the best feelings I can describe

Where nothing else compares

My tongue dancing with delight

It is not long before my body feels new energy

Positive and pleasing thoughts resurface

As if they had never left

Just waiting to be embraced

From this day forward

I will think twice before this happens again

A lesson learned well worth it's weight in gold

DDE Every day water does our body good. To often we can easily forget what is so important. Little reminders help keep us healthy and strong.Thank you so much for reading and sharing.

Dream On, you have a unique ability to write interesting poetry about the most mundane or simple things in life, like being thirsty in this instance. I admire that ability, well done.

Having grown up in the arid southwest part of Texas, I've always had an ever-present appreciation for & awareness of that wonderful stuff we call water.

My mother was so careful to not waste any of it, that she would save every bit used for household things to water the plants outside, and when it did rain, she'd catch rainwater in buckets and tubs to use for washing her hair and other cleaning activities. I'll have to admit that, knowing how precious it was, I tended to want to use more of it, just to enjoy the luxury and feel rich! I still prefer water to any other beverage! I have no doubt it has helped keep me healthy to this advanced age! ;-)

Thank you for a really good description of how it feels to lack it! You've made me thirsty, in fact!
