In Retrospect...a poem
By Tony DeLorger © 2013
Even now in retrospect,
my thoughts back then were right except,
I recognised not my heart reside,
within its truth, not from my eyes.
Had I listened my path go straight,
but lessons lost and ends negate,
the understanding that pain delivers,
not sleepless nights in chills and shivers.
Strange creature we in stubborn state,
clinging to our deluded fate,
when hearts do whisper what we know,
and we reject for pride and show.
It is well we delve into our souls,
where words of truth resound and glow,
seated deep within our being,
is all we ever question or dream.
In human world questions float adrift,
searching for that perfect gift,
that resolution of an answer makes,
two halves a whole for life's own sake.
Within the heart these two exist,
together, questions and answers lift,
an open mind to take complete,
the truth endowed, no doubts to meet.
Listen to the beat of your own heart,
for it whispers truths only you recognise.
