In the Presence of Mind

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

It is not mine to choose, that which I am,

I simply am to begin with,

and no matter my path of discover and explanation,

I remain that which I was already, alone yet defined.

However I view my progression, my metamorphosis,

in my soul I stay that cumbersome grub,

that slow, hesitant and inept beast,

visioning only what rests before me, step by step.

What preys upon my mind,

my soul squirming from self-imposition,

can never be resolved without myself,

that pure and individual state that is me.

I may choose to run from truth,

but freedom can only be gained from stillness of heart,

and I, always running from problems, fears and life,

find no end to my pain and no freedom as recompense.

Running achieves nothing but the ability to run,

destinations, or at least their nourishment, always at the point of beginnings,

always elusive in pursuit, always driven my the past,

assumptions of a lucid yet fragile mind.

What I am is to be realised,

not what I become, what I do nor what I achieve,

but who I have always been in essence,

the gift of me that is distinct and individual.

If I follow that then I come full-circle,

arriving at the end, marking a beginning,

expressing the eternal truth through self-realisation

and empowering the cycle of life.
