They Didn't Remember

Updated on August 27, 2011

Home from work, my mother was drunk laying on the sofa. I asked my mother to stop drinking but still she was drinking. “Mom…go to bed…stop drinking…” My mother got really mad and grab the beer bottle and threw it on the floor. She said, “You don’t tell me to go to sleep you demon!” She got up pulling my hair and drag me to the bathroom. She let me look in the mirror and she told me, “You are not my daughter you piece of shit!” and bang my head against the wall and walked away. I started crying and fell against the wall sitting down placing head against my knee. For a while I soon got up and washed my face. Wipe up my tears and check on my mother. My mother fell asleep on the sofa and I started to pick up the broken glasses. I grab a blanket to cover my mom from the cold and kiss her on the forehead goodnight.

After picking up the broken glasses, I saw my older sister in her room crying. I asked her what happen, but she said nothing and cry herself to sleep. I knew something must have happen while I’m at work. I have been questioning her many time but she seems to not telling me about it and want to have her lonely time. I started to go to the kitchen and start cleaning, my mother woke up from me being to loud and she walked toward me to give her a glass of alcohol. I told her no. My mother started laughing and started talking to me about when I was a child. She said that I was one of the bad kid…bully other people at school, getting into fights, talking back, not listening, I was just a disturbance to her life and wished that she never kept me. I started to cry just sitting down there listening to my mother talking. I let her talk until she fall asleep. In my mind, I hear my heart talking, “Mom…I can’t believe you thought wrong about me…” as tears caressing my cheek. My dad got home late from fishing and help me get her up to her bedroom. My dad was really angry with my mother. My fear was my dad hitting my mother, therefore I let him sleep in the living room as I sleep in bedroom with mom.

I slept with my mother and my mother woke up vomiting. I started to hit her back and stroke it. She vomit all over herself so I would have to change her. I woke up my older sister to help me so we both started to change her. We took her in to shower and started washing her up. We dress her up and take her to bed.

After my mother fall in a deep sleep, I started talking to my older sister and asked her what have happen? She said nothing and wrapped her blanket around herself. I then hug my sister and say goodnight. I walked in my room and open the window, sitting down on my bed looking through the window at the moonlight. I told the moon that know one remembered my birthday. I took a deep breath and I smiled….I sang… “Happy birthday to me….happy birthday to me…happy birthday happy birthday…happy birthday to me….” as my tear fall caressing my cheek.
