Is It My Special Smile?

I think that what I might be saying
Is that in your effortless way
Your smile has scattered my mind
Like children at the end of a school day

Screaming and yelling recklessly
Running away from tedium
With no thought to anything
But the happiness they will spend

And when you laugh
Birds of a different feather
Gather with no thought of difference
But with hope for your call

As do I
Or is it just who you are?
A girl with a smile for a stranger
Because life is about what you give

Just came online and happened across your poem first thing. What a nice place to land -- reminds us all that there is much out and about in the world around us including love at first sight and just special smiles to gladden a stranger's heart. Voted up and awesome.

Yes it must be your special smile! What is more contagious than a smile. If someone smiles at you I defy you not to smile!!!

@Pamela - Thanks... yeah a smile is a good thing especially from a pretty lady.

@acaetnna - Hey! I wonder if it was just for me or everybody... it was nice...

Yep--it is that special smile--makes for a special person! One of my fave bumper stickers: "Smile for whom you smile at may need it more than you." On the funny side: "Smile; it makes people wonder what you've been up to!" But cutting out tonight and can't think of a better place to leave off! This poem just one more reason I'm back. Thanks so much!

@Teylina - Howdy stranger! Glad your back. Thank you for commenting. A smile sometimes is all somebody needs. There is a lot of power that you receive.... it cuts through all the negative messages we receive and send.

Beautiful. I love the similes that you use.

Your smile has scattered my mind

Like children at the end of a school day

Creates such great visuals. Nicely done.

Thank you for the welcome. Kids do that! Having a hard time catching up with you and everybody else--bear w/me! And, yes, I agree we all need to alleviate as much negativity for everyone--including ourselves--and smiles can do that!

@Teylina - Yep... kids... aging parents (my current problem; my Dad's Alzheimers is kicking in)... sometimes a smile is all it takes to make you feel better.

Was in your shoes; now my daughter is. So glad she's learned to smile--even laugh occasionally--thru tribulations and triumphs! And I don't even have Alzheimer's!! Hang in there; pretend I'm flashing you a smile across the FSU campus! (I'm old, but I ain't dead! And I love to smile! You do too, and have a great one.
