The Little Folk

I was a child in a

world of make believe

when I first began

searching for you

dreaming of

a possible glimpse

listening for a

quiet whisper

waiting for a

gentle touch

silently wishing

and hoping you'd

call out my name

I dreamt of living

in your magical place

of you inviting me into

your world

here - where

dreams come true

beauty abounds

perfect in it’s simplicity

magnificent in it’s glory

many years have passed

no longer a child

I've grown tired and weary

now I wait here hoping

looking and listening

I close my eyes

and feel a gentle touch

my head is filled

with a hundred soft voices

whispering my name

calling me

as my strength slips away

MM, admit it -- you're a hobbit after all lol! And I know how you felt. When I was a little girl I would go walking in the woods near my grandmother's house because I was convinced that more things lived there than I could see. Where were the photos taken, BTW? Can anyone go there?

Lovely and whimsical poem...

I took these photos on a recent visit to the Lake district (there will be hubs to follow!) Ithought the little folk sign was fabulous.

Lesley this is beautiful and you brought back so many memories - and dreams - of childhood.

I had a special tree that I loved. One of those beautiful old ones with the roots showing on the ground and covered with moss. Very like your photograph. Beside this tree was also a couple of very old rocks. Spring and summer would see wild flowers growing all around this tree and the rocks. Now for me, even although I never saw 'the little folk', this was the place they definately lived and it was magical.

It's a pity we grow up and out of the wonderful state of believing we have as kids. But your beautiful poem brought back so many happy memories. An awesome piece of work + voted up!

This lovely poem with its beautiful photographic illustrations of enchanted woods transported me right back to my childhood days when the belief that anything was possible, especially finding magical little people dwelling in the woods.

What child hasn't searched for these mythic creatures and either found them in imagination or despaired of ever finding them?

Voted up across the board except for funny.

Derdriu 4 years ago

Lesley, Where is the little folk sign posted?

Your poetry is as beautiful as your photography and vice versa! In particular, I like the way you show the willing and the wanting to know the little folk being something that we can't control and that -- like guardian angels -- little folk do. Like cats, the little folk allow us into their world upon their terms.

Up + UFABI. Shared.

Respectfully, and thank you for sharing such charming, winsome beauty (particularly of my favorite bluebells), Derdriu

Movie Master profile image

Movie Master 4 years ago from United Kingdom Author

Hi Derdriu, the sign was posted on a walking farm trail from a craft shop in the Lake District called Low Sizergh Barn - a fabulous place, where you can shop, walk and eat in their cafe and watch the cows being milked!

I'm so pleased you enjoyed reading, and thank you as always for your continued support, comments, votes and sharing.

Hi Lesley,

I enjoyed this poem on several levels. The faith and imagination of a child and then the welcome we will be receiving on the other side of the veil of death meaning rebirth into the next life where those whispers of our dearly departed will be turned into shouts of joy. At least that is what it meant to me. Great poem. Voted beautiful. Thanks!
