Is Total Adoration Too Much to Ask?

Is it too much to ask for total adoration?

It's not as if I need total admiration

I know perfect is one thing I'll never be

And I don't even need you to always like me

I need you to love me through and through

As much for who I am as for the things I do

Because most of those things I do simply are a part of me

Without them I don't really feel the need to be

I know what it means to love and to be in love

And I hold true to my faith placed in God above

Besides, all I can do is just be me

Despite all of your own insecurities

So, please, figure out which is which

Because I certainly am no bitch

There's not a girl you can control

Unless you want to trap her soul!

And if it's not control that you desire

You must realize asking her to change will only quell her fire.

Wow Shan, so much is said here! So many emotions! Who has not been here? This is a place we sometimes exist when we ought not to because people just don't know how or simply fail to convey how they actually feel. I felt a sadness, but a strength in this; much like you!

About the third time I ever heard this song... I cried like a little baby... beautiful.

Cat

Thanks, Cat! You're a total sweetheart with some strength of your own, sister dear. That's one of my favorite songs. It's made me cry too. I'm such a sap. haha

Well I'm the cheese calling the sap, cheesy (uh.. that was supposed to be a spin off 'pot calling the kettle black'... guess I'll have to work on that :D I'm beat... brain is working on low levels :D

I'd like to think I've got a touch of strength under all the wuss ;-)

Uh. . .yeah...cheese and sap don't exactly go together. Tee hee hee. But, it's okay. Love ya anyway.

Eat some chocolate. I'm writing an article for something about chocolate more or less acting like an energy drink, among other things. . .cough suppressant even. Who knew?

Great... now I'm even more depressed that I don't have any chocolate... life just keeps getting better!

I knew I shouldn't have eaten a row of Oreos at a time... pig, I am (little Yoda action for ya)

Are Oreos really chocolate though? Who said Oreo...

shanmarie profile image

shanmarie 3 years ago from Texas Author

Oh, Honeybun (yes, another deliberate food reference :D) - don't be depressed over no chocolate. Haha....just go get ya some; it's a mood enhancer. But, women have known that for ages! Oh, and apparently, it's a diarrhea treatment, too. Again, who knew? hahaha

Cantuhearmescream profile image

Well... that explains why I've never had diarrhea a day in my life :D

Hey... honey... quick... go buy me some chocolate... I've got the Hershey squirts!

Yeah... so wanna hear how messed up my M&M addiction is? Last winter... I had just moved back into my old homestead that sat empty for 5 years and I was doing some major remodeling. I was sleeping there and eating there but I had to redo the bathroom... so, at night... I'd go down the street to the firehouse and brush my teeth and wash my face. At the time, my bf... would usually go to bed when I took off. Well, there was a blizzard... and I mean blizzard... roads were covered in thick snow and big huge flakes were attacking the windshield... barely could see a foot in front of you. As I was about to make my turn for the fire house... I got thinking... 'boy I could really go for some peanut M&Ms'... but our nearest store is almost 10 miles away... I figured it wasn't a good idea, being a blizzard and all, risking my life for some chocolate? So... I drove right past the firehouse anyway. White knuckles... face against the windshield and gosh darnit... I made it to the store... got my M&Ms and the whole drive back... giggled at how pathetic I was. As I rolled into town, I could see something in the distance... what's that? A figure? As I got closer... I realized it was my bf... halfway across the village... on a mission to find me :D lol... I slowly stopped the car... he got in and said 'Where the *&***&*& did you go?' I tried hiding the M&M's... but it was too late... I had shell all over me :D... it was not a good night after that... it was like I just got caught cheating on my boyfriend with M&Ms :D

See, total adoration is too much to ask for. Hahaha Your M&M shells are not adorable. Nor can you be admired for risking your life to satisfy a craving. :-p

Wow, my friend - i love your style of poetry! Your fire burns hot and healthy - good luck to the poor sot who attempts to put it out or change the temperature!

You do not ask for too much - you ask for no less than you are willing to give - and you deserve far more!

sharing on..

have an awesome weekend!

Gee, thanks, Colin! What more could a girl ask for? Cats, of course, always come first. They don't ask it; they demand it. They also always seem to be on top of the keyboard or whatever paper happens to be in front of me. And why not, I guess? It means immediate attention, if only to be moved. My Stormy will put her teeth on me if I ignore her. She also does that when she's tired of the attention. haha At least she does not leave mice in my bed as I'm sleeping like I've had cats do in the past.

If you have to ask for it . . . .

But if asking is involved, consider whether being asked for total adoration is too much to be asked. . . .

Ahahah, Nellieanna, isn't that what I already asked - only in reverse? :-p.

Thanks, Kim! I try to make them flow naturally by just writing, but if a line seems "off" I'll rework it, and others if I have to, several times over until it flows right in my mind.

I hope you don't mind.I am reading and appreciating your natural flow.Your right on point. When I write I go with my heart but sometimes it takes me all over the world.Places I have never been.So I am too excited to stop even though I lose my readers one by one.Have you taken many courses on writing?I just write through practice and learn by doing.A few writings later :)

shanmarie profile image

shanmarie 3 years ago from Texas Author

I've not taken any special courses on writing, no, aside from the usual required English and Reading classes required in high school. I had one creative writing class in college, but it was more an introductory to college course, with that professor supposed to have been a mentor throughout the proceeding four years. I chose the course because it sounded fun. It was supposed to be about word play and writing, but it was a huge let down that ultimately mostly bored me, and I don't really recall much of it, except that I was accused of plagiarism for the final project and I had to prove that it was not by showing the entire writing process to the professor that was handwritten and many edits and drafts.

As for my poetry, much of it is lyrical in nature because I love the way music can move the emotions. And other things I write are simply more free verse. Some rhyme, some don't, depending on what I have to say and how I feel like saying it when I write it. I'm glad you feel that the flow is natural, as that is usually my goal.

A man, a monkey and a woman …which one?

Is a total dreamer about the heights they can reach

Which one is secure in their inner world

And which one doesn’t measure up to heightened emotions?

Is there a cat in the house, who has the emotional cool to decide?

Loved the poem and it’s destiny to uncover our ultimate human endeavour

Hi shanmarie. I am so inspired by the poem. I believe that total love and adoration is not too much to give. No one is asking for the best life in the world, or for the most expensive jewellery and car. Only the most true love. Nice one. Voted up, awesome and beautiful.
