It Takes But One Moment

It takes but one moment

And life can change around

It takes but one moment

And we may think differently

Look back over the years

Did you ever think?

That childhood would be here gone tomorrow?

Where did the hours go?

That were spent in playtime dreams

Was it the fairy tales or lullabies?

That made it drift by so quickly

When we have it all before us

We never think of tomorrow

We only think of how it is today

Then before we know it

A new day has begun

And things are no longer the same

Where did our yesterday’s dreams go?

If we could only hold on to the moments

We so treasure

Just for a moment longer

Would it make life’s journey easier?

If we could hold on to the moments

We don’t want to let go of too soon

Or perhaps that’s what life is all about

Perhaps we have no control

For that we have our memories

So that we can revisit those moments

Time and time again

I'm still shocked and amazed when I look in the mirror and there's an old lady staring back instead of the seventeen year old me!

Time goes so swift and there's no turning back. At least we got good memories. Yesterday I was in my twenties, today I'm in my 60's.!

Good memories, bad memories, I love them all, and have learned from them all. I love my life and I love this poem.

When we are children we can't wait to grow up then wish we were children again, no pleasing us is there. Lol. Everything is so simple and straightforward when we are young. Where do the years go but yes we do have memories to re-visit

Loved this poem

Wonderful poem! When I look in a mirror I see the lie of who I am not; when I see beyond the looking glass I find the past, present and future are all at my command, and I am whoever and whatever I want to be!

Time flies so fast and we're so busy about everything. I just got an email today that says: "If only I could turn the hands of time..." but it takes one moment to change everything without us noticing it...and we have no control but to revisit those days in our memories. Love this one Rose Lee!

What a poignant, melancholy poem...quite beautiful!

I am not sure if time truly exists. Sometimes a minute can feel like an eternity, and other times, an hour like a heart beat. Either way, Life is a true wonder, isn't it?

Blessings to you!

Just reached a milestone myself so this poem more poignant this week. I enjoy conversation with my fifteen year old and his cute concept of old. Wow mom they are over 30 ... Hehehe so I guess that makes me ancient. But we must remember memories last and with age and time comes wisdom and new adventures to captivate and lasso into memories. Blessing to you :)

Rasma, this is such a profound and wonderful poem that sends an arrow straight to the heart! It's a bit spooky as well, since my sister and I were talking only a few days ago about memories and if we knew what was ahead of us, even just a little bit, how we would treasure and rejoice in the precious moments that we are given.

It's a joy and also brings pain to remember our young days and at times there is such a strong longing to go back a re-live with better insight and free from silly worries that we allow to spoil some parts of our life. But your poem also gives us hope that we can start from today to bring our present dreams alive and learn the lessons from the past.

Beautiful and very deep piece of work - voted up everything + shared!

Beautiful, deep thoughts in this poem of yours, Rasma.

"For that we have our memories

So that we can revisit those (wonderful) moments

Time and time again"

And that is why I am almost over-eagerly replacing my bad memories with good ones.

Voted up and thought-provoking :)

Glad you enjoyed this The Stages of ME. That is so true especially teenagers feel like time is totally on their side. When I was a teen I thought it was a permanent stage until I reached my twenties and the cart of life speeded up.

Glad you enjoyed this Jamie. I never seem to have enough time for everything.

Glad you enjoyed this Helen. I don't really know if I would want to know what was up ahead of me but I do agree it would be enjoyable to step back in time and relive certain moments. Thanks for the vote and share.

Hi Gypsy.... Life can be short or long. No matter what and or where we find ourselves in it we do need to be ever aware of what we are dong with our time, our words and our talents. Come what may once we are gone there will be no more but what we have left behind.

Hugs and Blessings

Gypsy Rose Lee profile image

You're so right Rolly. Life is indeed what we make of it not matter how fast the time goes. Just seems I never have enough hours in the day. So glad the spring is here and the days are now long so that I just work as if the day itself had more hours to it. I think our furry friends have it the best. They get love and affection and have no worries about time passing. Sid sends his sincerest meows to Quigley. Hugs and blessing to you.

The days go slow but the years go fast, as they say. It makes me think of the "Sunrise, Sunset" song from Fiddler on the it really just one more sunrise away from the past? I enjoyed this poem---it inspires nostalgic and introspective feelings.

have a beautiful weekend dear..

I once heard it said: 'We can only live in the moment, taking it one day at a time. Leaving your dreams for tomorrow's, day.' Each new day gives us new chances to grow, learn and move on. Always look forward to a better tomorrow, no matter how far away it might seem. : ) Good poem, Gypsy! Voted it up and awesome.

Lovely poem about childhood. It does go so quickly. I always have fond memories of times with my grandparents - the happiest times of my life. It was such a short time, relatively, that they were here. Your poem so poignantly points out how quickly our childhood flies by and yet as children we don't realize we need to savor each moment. Summers with grandparents and cousins seem like they will go on forever and they are really over in a moment of time. You have captured this perfectly with your poem. Well done and well written!
