A Broken Heart

Mother and Son

Hand in hand they walked the dirty trash littered back streets

of a heartless time,

A very weary and down trotted stunning woman and her four

year old son; who did not understand any reason or rhyme for

this injudicious human crime.

She found an abandoned grocery cart ----on the third day,

And in it she placed their clothes, and their meager food supplies,

using an old blanket she found last night--- she hides them away.

They washed off at night in a gas station sink---- she didn't want

them to smell,

So it served them well.

“Mommy, what was that bad word the mean old man said?”

“The words was “Foreclosure” my Darling, but get that word

out of your head.”

“What does it mean, Mommy?”

“It means we have to leave our home, and find another

place to live.”

“But Mommy what about my kitty Tom, where will he stay---

what will he eat and where is the food they will give?”

Her Broken Heart
Her Broken Heart

“Miss Andrews is taking care of him, until we find another home,

My Darling, he will not be alone.”

Then her little man grew sleepy, and she carried him and pushed the cart

into a deserted car lot,

She looked around for the best spot.

When she found an old discarded car---she fixed the back seat for the night,

to let her son sleep until it was light.

She kissed him-- then positioned herself beside him and looked up into the

dark stormy sky,

As thunder roared and lightning struck near by---- the rain inundate the dirty lot,

only then tears of exasperation and sadness filled her beautiful green eyes,

she gave a sigh.

Morning brought a bright smile from her son, and warmed her jig-sawed heart,

She then said her morning prayers that God would not let anyone keep them apart.

She prayed: Lord, I thank you for keeping my son safe throughout the night,

And help me Lord to keep for him--- my spirit bright.

I know it is said you do not give us more than we can bear,

But Lord sometimes----I feel you have mistakenly given me an extra share.

Man with Black Hair
Man with Black Hair

Close Enough to Hear

Far off, but close enough to hear----stood man who had just left his limo parked on the lot,

Something bad had happened here, but he knew not what.

He could not believe his own eyes when he saw a beautiful woman,

kneeling with a little boy duplicating the position---by her side,

Her amazing beauty the dirt and dust could not hide.

He waited until her prayer was over, and then he approached the two,

His black hair sparkled as if kissed by the morning dew.

His blue eyes shined brightly with waiting tears,

As he walked stealfully towards them; ---trying not to cause fear.

“Mommy look---we prayed up an Angel---and he is here.”

She looked up into his eyes of blue---and her heart felt reborned cheer.

Not a word could she speak, as her green eyes looked into his blue eyes,

But all was not lost as her son produced very loudly cries.

“Mommy can I say that bad word ---the mean man shouted at us?

Yes, Mister he said “Foreclosure” and he did cuss.

He looked at her for confirmation, and the first time he heard her lovely voice,

His smile radiated her jig-sawed heart and sheared the broken pieces together

without her consent or choice.

“Where is your husband?” he asked her inquiringly,

“He died in Afghanistan, two years ago.” She replied without crying---surprisingly.

He took the boy to the limo in his arms, and hugged her before he put her in and

whispered for her ears only----I am taking you to my home,

Then we can talk and plan while my housekeeper takes care of all your needs

and you will never again be alone.

Her son asked, “Mister, Can we please get kitty Tom, from our neighborhood?”

And they all laughed as the limo went that way, and now they would be a family

it was happily understood.

And in a whispered voice she said, “Thank you, Lord.” and her jig-sawed heart was whole once more.

Love is Like a Fountain
Love is Like a Fountain

Love is a Fountain

Love is a Fountain

Love can inundate one’s heart,

To wash away any hurts and pain,

so lovers will never be apart.

Love is the highest mountain with its snowy peak,

All lonely climbers seek.

Love is glue that keeps a family together,

So they will survive any stormy weather.

So a drink from the “Love Fountain” is sweet and pure,

For life gives many trails that love can endure.

We sure never know when this or something like could be our story. I hope we can be as lucky and have the faith we need to see us through. Voted up

Bobbi, you have come up with another gem of a poem. A true story teller are you. for you know how to tear one's mind with words and show the truth of the ugliness that we see every day. But you show the true face of faith also, to be able to show both side is a unique talent that you possess. Love ya

Oh this was so good. The story, the visuals, the emotion, how we, as moms, feel for our children, and the answered prayer to a set of circumstances--you did a really good job with this piece. Thank you. Loved the title too. Thumbs up.

One of favorite hubbers---I feel honored. It seems the more hubbers we meet on HubPages---the more fun we have in our little community.

Here is a thought from my Girl Scouts days--I am trying to adhere to it= Make new friends, but keep the old, one is Silver and the other is Gold.

Sometimes, I fall short of this---but I am trying.

Hi, Bobbi, this was such a sad story with a beautiful ending, I have watched on tv over here in England, a program about Americans leaving their homes because of this problem, if only they all had such a happy ending, nell

Hi Nell,

I know but as writers we can do that--and I feel for the people who have been through such a terrible experience.

People are trying to live the "American Dream" which they have every right to do---but it does not always turn out right.

Thank you for stopping by--I always appreciate your comments.

You know, we never know how fortunate we are until we hear these kinds of stories. Then we think how it could never happen to us, but it surely can. This was a great reminder of such a thing.

PurvisBobbi44 profile image

PurvisBobbi44 17 months ago from Florida Author

Hi aviannovice,

Your words are so true and in every dark corner is a light shining brightly over a strong woman. What knocks us down will give us strength to stand up against the negativity in life. I am woman hear me roar---I love that song.

I hope all is well in your world and you are still taking beautiful pictures.

Until later,

Bobbi Purvis
