This is Jo, the alien cat. It looks like something is wrong with her eye here, but it is okay now.

"She is an alien cat, and if you're not sure, just ask my husband."

Jo Is An Alien Cat!

Have you ever had a cat that you thought seemed a little "off?" Well, we did, too, and we call her Jo. Jo looks like any other normal cat that people would have, but don't let her calm exterior fool you. Jo is an alien cat, and if you're not sure, just ask my husband.

First of all, Jo looks spaced out. Now, earth cats are known for being alert and aware of their surrounding, right? She is aware of her surrounding, but she sometimes seems a bit dazed. In fact, most of the time she has a very spaced out look on her face, as if caught by surprise at being in this strange place.

Jo has quite a few strange habits that make us suspect her alien status, as well. For one thing, she has a blue plastic flat toy shaped like a mouse, with a big spring with a red ball for a tail, that she carries around as if it is one of her kittens, holding it in her mouth, back straight, and moving it to various locations around the house. My husband calls it her space ship, and this has him even more convinced that he comes from another planet.

Another strange and unusual habit that Jo has is that she uses toilet paper. I kid you not. And I don't blame her, because with that smell, it's definitely worth covering up! What she does is do her business in her litter box, and then scratch the box, scratch the walls, and scratch the floor for about five minutes straight. Then she looks for a piece of paper, drags it to the box, and covers her brown nugget, like toilet paper. We figure that on her planet, the cats are more advanced, and all use toilet paper for their bathroom duties, and she feels compelled to do it here.

"Her mission: to make sure that we never sleep all the way through the night."

Jo's Nocturnal Ways

One more thing that has made us wonder if Jo is an alien is her nocturnal habits. Now, all cats are known for being busy creatures during the night time hours, something to do with their tiger heritage or something. But Jo is busy in a different way.

She has a habit of coming into our room around 3 a.m., usually about the time I just go into my R.E.M. sleep, and rubbing her face and butt right into our face. She doesn't do this just once, but several times until one or both of wake up. After she has woken us up, she purrs so loudly that my teenage stepson who sleeps downstairs usually wakes up and yells out something unspeakable.

Then after the face and butt rubbing ritual, she proceeds to dig all ten of her claws into my raw skin, kneading to her heart's content. This makes her even more happy, and she purrs loudly. I pet her, and give her loves, and after about fifteen minutes, she hops away, content at having accomplished her mission. Her mission: to make sure that we never sleep all the way through the night.

Sometimes she gets a bit overwhelmed by life, and she is a bit strange, but we still love her, and she loves us

We love Jo

We love Jo, the alien cat. Admittedly, she is a bit weird, but we love her. And if I thought she could read, I would never write a hub that would make her feel bad about herself. She and Shiloh have never had the close friendship I dreamt for them, but they tolerate each other, and have their close moments.

Jo gave us kittens this summer, and she was an absolutely amazing mother. I guess all the practice with blue mouse she carries around paid off, because she was an ace with those little ones. We kept one of the kittens, Gray Eye, and now she has had one more batch of kittens. She is doing a fantastic job with them as well.

Jo is a very loving animal, and is always concerned about everyone and everything. Sometimes she gets a bit overwhelmed by life, and she is a bit strange, but we love her and she loves us. We are glad we brought Jo home on that sad day that Shiloh was gone, even if they never were the best friends I had imagined.

Jo, the alien cat, is our alien cat, and we love her to bits!

My mum has a cat just like this. Alice is definitely an alien cat too! She has that glazed look all the time, and she'll often sit with her back to the room, staring at the wall. She's absolutely adorable, a dark grey and white cat. She's very small, and has never grown to proper cat size (whatever that is!), so she still looks like a kitten even though she's 11.

I had two cats, but both were killed on our road. Millie was just 1 when she died, and Mikey was almost 2. They were brother and sister, and we lost them seven and eight years ago - I still miss them though, they were such a comical pair. I feel a little teary writing about them even now. I would love to have two more cats, but we still live in the same place and our road is just too busy these days. It would be cruel to keep them inside I think. When we move we will have cats, they're my favourite pet.

Lovely hub :)

Linda.

Lady WS, thank you so much. That's funny that your Mom has an alien cat, too! Maybe from the same planet? We get a lot of laughs from our sweet kitty!

I'm so sorry to hear about the accidents with your cats. That is so harsh. I let one of my cats out, too, because she just hates being inside all the time. Thanks so much for reading and commenting. Take care, Lady Wordsmith.

This is such a cute hub. I'm a cat lover and owner. And I just fell in love with Jo. She has babies now she can dote on instead of her little toy. How precious.

And I'm glad Shiloh returned home. Maybe some day she and Jo will become big buddies. In the meantime, it's good to know they share such a loving and nurturing home.

Yolanda, thank you so much! And yes, now that her babies are here, she's left the toy alone (mostly!) Ha Ha! Thank you so much for your kind words, and it's great to talk to another cat lover. Take care!

My Cat is 16 and I really got her for my mom when she was a kitten so she could really be mine because I was there so often anyway helping with Dad who had had a stroke. Your story reminded me that I wanted her brother which had two different colored eyes, but I don't like to have boy animals since they don't seem to be as clean to me.She had kittens twice and was so mean to them before they got weaned they got her fixed but she was a great mouser. Mom passed away in June and wasn't with me the last three years but cat Lilly misses her still and gets in her room to nap every chance she gets after she goes around getting familiar with the odor of Mom still on things of hers there I am sure. Now Lilly acts like Mom and will come get in bed with me almost every evening and curl up in my left arm while I try to type with her belly exposed for me to rub. Two years ago or less she would have bit my hand off for that. Now she craves loving.

I was never a cat person til I found a 5 week old kitten in the gutter out front on a stormy night. Now I find myself reading lots of cat hubs and actually enjoying them! Our own, now grown, Banjo carries a beannie baby kitten around and occasionally sleeps with it. He talks too! If he is hurt, he says "Me-ow" haha.

Pollyannalanna, what a beautiful story, and it sounds like the cat is some comfort to you with the passing of your Mother. That's so amazing how much the cat changed, almost like she opened up her heart. Thanks for sharing this, and I apologize for not responding sooner. Take care.

Dolores, I know that one good cat can totally change a person's opinion about the creatures. I have seen it happen, twice, once to my Grandma, and once to my husband!

Your kitty sounds like a darling, and it's so wonderful that you brought her out of the rain. And that's funny that he carries around a beanie baby. So cute! Take care, and thanks so much for sharing. I love hearing about other people's cats! :)

Thanks for your cute story about your cats. I'm glad Shiloh came back but kinda sad that the two cats aren't closer. Maybe Shiloh is jelous. I enjoyed your fun style of writing and can't get enough pet stories. I have two black labs and they have some wierd behaviors too but I like you, love them anyway. LOL

MT, thanks for reading and thanks for your kind comments. I love hearing pet stories, too, and I'm sure your labs make you laugh a lot! Yes, Shiloh and Jo are not that close, but they do cuddle sometimes and maybe will get close someday. Shiloh is possessive of me, and I think she considers me her "territory." They are always interesting, though!

What a lovely story and the cats look are great. Jo looks alot like my tom Zee. I can see why you are so attached to your kitties! I am a bit jealous you get to have so many kittens around.

I call Zee my random meow alarm. Somehow I think cats sense when you go into R.E.M and love to wake you up at that time. I dont know how long it has been since I slept without being woken up by him.

DaNoblest, thank you so much for coming by to my hub! I know what you mean about the random meow alarm clock. That's funny ... JO seem to have that same mechanism. She's not that affectionate during the day, but seems to keep her greatest affection for when I am in my deepest sleep. Thanks again, and take care!

PP,

YAY, another cat lover.

I'm really glad you found me and now I found you! I have a cat named Peanut that looks just like your Jo. LOL when you talked about Jo scratching in her box. Peanut scratches the litter, the box, the wall, the dresser, and then the carpet ~ for a really long time. She's obsessed with it. If she starts carrying paper in there, I'll just flip :)

Definitely check out my two hubs about cats. I'm off to read your others. Thanks!

Sharyn

Sharyn, that's hilarious! I know ... the paper was just the last straw in her weirdness. But in her little mind, it all makes sense! Ha, ha!

I'm so glad to meet another great cat lover, too, and I am very much looking forward to reading more of your hubs. Thanks again! Take care.

PS...YES! I can relate!

Oh my, can I relate to cats and weird behavior! My cat will only drink water out of her bowl if it is in the bathtub or coming out of a faucet! ROFLOL I love reading cat hubs...they are so entertaining and touching too! As you know, I LOVE CATS!!!!! Even alien ones!

KH, that's so cute! Cats are so funny, with their unique little ways. I love reading the cat hubs, too, because each one is different and interesting. I don't know how a person could not like cats! Ha ha!

Life with cats is an amazing adventure, particularly so if you happen to have an alien. Jo must have come from an unknown planet. :)

I'll have to write more about our sweetie. She's unbelievable at times. Simply a darling.

In reading through the hubs Delores Monet made me laugh as much as Jo's antics. Me ow. He, he. :)

Funny hub ~ voted up, awesome and funny.

I am not so much of a cat person, although I do like them, I just have never owned one. I can relate to the strange personality part though. Our dog complains a lot, making a strange grumbling sound. She has a personality of her own and has even mastered the 'stink eye' ... very funny to see from a dog! lol.

@RT, yes, our Jo does come from an alien place! It is fun to write about our little darlings. I happen to love hearing people's pet stories and to read about them, too. I look forward to reading about yours. Take care.

@Brett, thanks so much for reading. That's hilarious about your strange dog. Thanks again for the great comment!
