Keepers Missive: The Love Song of Baruchi

Did you know that all men at one time spoke only one language?

  • Yes, I knew.
  • No, I did not know.
  • No, I do not believe that that is true.

Part 1.

Keepers Missive
The Love Song of Baruchi

In my previous letters, I mentioned that I needed to tell you the Story of Keeper Baruchi.  This is the story of how a simple-tongue became a Keeper.  It is also the story of how there came to be Jewish Keepers.
It is common knowledge that simple-tongues cannot learn Mother-tongue.  That is because they are under the curse of the broken tongue.  It is also known that a Keeper can become a simple-tongue.  If a Keeper is found guilty of certain grievous crimes that fall short of capital punishment, they may be banished to the Forbidden Lands.  Part of this punishment is for the Judgment Keeper or Law Keeper to pronounce the curse of the broken tongue on the Keeper as he is being banished.
The Keeper that is cursed loses his ability to speak Mother-tongue.  But he also loses his higher mental faculties.  He loses cognitive ability.  And he loses Keeper skills.  This is commonly known, but there is one event that most Keepers do not know as well.  This is the story of how a simple-tongue became a Keeper.
The maiden was a young Jewish girl.  Her name was Tamara.  Her family was migrating from the lands around city called Keepers Wisdom to the western Free Lands.  For there were some sons of Abraham living in those lands.
Bandits of the Free Lands attacked the family just outside of Keepers Wisdom.  The murderers were found and judged according to the law.  If a man murders a man, by man shall his life be taken.
Keeper Baruchi was the one who found the slain family.  He was of the Plant Keepers Clan and of the Healing Keepers Guild.  There, among the dead was one maiden, the eldest daughter.  She appeared to be slain; but alas, life was yet in her.
Baruchi nursed her back to health.  He knit together the cuts and wounds.  He sang the healing song of the Keepers.  He fought the infections.  He had to teach her to talk again and even to walk because of the injuries to her head.

Part 2

Several things happened as a result of his healing work.  The first result is that she was completely healed.  Some say that even the scars disappeared.  Keeper medicine is good, but there are some scars that just do not go away.  But Tamara was completely whole in the end.
The second thing that happened is that the Keeper Baruchi came to love this maiden.  He spoke softly to her and comforted her in the loss of her family.  Every day, he sang the healing songs, and the healing songs became a love song.  His heart was bound to her and loved her.  He married her and she became his wife.  Tamara loved the kindly Baruchi and he became her husband.
Baruchi’s parents did not object to this marriage, but gave their blessing.  For they saw how great was the love of this man for this maiden.  They could not refuse him.  You need to understand this.  It is important in the law of the Trust.  Keepers cannot marry without the blessing of their parents.
Tamara’s family was all gone.  So, there was no one to object to the marriage.  And in fact, by the law of rescue, Baruchi now held the responsibility for her life.
While Baruchi’s parents gave blessing for the marriage, the Trust did not.  Never before had a Keeper been known to marry a simple-tongue.  In the halls of blue marble, the Trust made a new law.  Never again could a Keeper marry a simple-tongue.
The third result of Baruchi’s healing was the most important for our purposes here.  As Tamara regained her full health, she began to understand and to speak Mother-tongue.  This is the only time that any simple-tongue had ever come to speak Mother-tongue.  And it was the cause of no end of turmoil for a thousand years.  The consensus today is that Keepers do not like to talk about this part of the story.

Will God return to man the original language of man?

  • Yes.
  • No.

Part 3

There are three main theories offered as to why Tamara began to speak after being born a simple-tongue.  Of course, the cynics that refused to believe that she was born a simple-tongue.  They call it a hoax, a farce, a lie.  And the only ones that could prove it were either Tamara’s slain family members, or Tamara.  So, even today there are accusations of dishonesty remembered against the memory of the poor victim of violence.
Others suggest that it was because she spoke one of the core languages.  For the language of the Hebrews is one of the oldest of the broken-tongues.  When the Creator broke the Mother-tongue, He divided it into ten languages.  They each carry part of the original Mother-tongue.  All broken-tongue languages since then have splintered from these.  Hebrew was very close to the core.  So, some Keepers believe because she spoke a language close to this core, that was why she could speak Mother-tongue.  Hebrew still carries similarities with Mother-tongue.  After all, as a Hebrew, she was also a daughter of Peleg, like the first Keepers were.
In Baruchi’s efforts to heal Tamara, and the healing songs, when she began to speak Mother-tongue, it was first in singing to songs with Baruchi.  So, some Keepers believe that she began to speak the Mother-tongue because Baruchi was a gifted healer.  Indeed, he became one of the most famous healer so Keeper history.  These people believe that in the healing of Tamara’s wounds, he also healed her mind so that the curse of broken tongue was healed too.
One theory among the Priest Keepers was that she came to speak Mother-tongue because Baruchi married the virgin Tamara.  They say that because marriage is a blood covenant and that because blood covenants make two into one, she became like her husband.  They believe that Tamara became a Keeper because the Creator sees the two as one.
The belief of the Law Guild is that it was simply a blessing of the Creator, what you would call a miracle.  They say that the Creator validated the marriage this way.  And this was why the Law Guild never interfered with the marriage.  The Creator had validated it.  They believe it was a special work of the Creator.  He gave the curse of the broken tongue.  He did promise through the Keeper and Jewish prophets to lift the curse and return to the people a pure language.  For Tamara, He lifted it early.
What ever was the reason for it, Tamara began to speak Mother-tongue.  So, the Trust had to declare her a Keeper.  She was the first Jewish Keeper.

Part 4: The End.

Baruchi and Tarmara were blessed by the Creator to have many children. Most Keepers do not conceive as often as the simple-tongues. Some Keepers believe it is because the Creator causes simple-tongue to conceive more frequently because of their short lives.

Tamara bore Baruchi eighty-one children in her 358 years of marriage. The Creator gave His blessing and approval on Tamara by giving her children abundantly. These were Jewish Keepers. So today, whether they are decedents of Baruchi or because they belong to families that have converted, about 30% of the Keepers that live outside of the Keeper homeland are Jewish.

Incidentally, there are so many similarities between Keepers and the Hebrews. Both are sons of Peleg. The writings of the Jews and the Keeper prophecies are in harmony on most points. The Law of Moshe and the Keeper Priestly mandates agree in so many ways. Both groups worship the Creator on Shabbat. The first biggest difference is that Keepers are not circumcised unless they convert to Judaism. And the second difference is that Keepers never eat meat. Jews eat the Passover. Of course, there are Jews who are not Keepers. And there are some tensions and politics between the two groups, Keeper Jews and non-Keeper Jews.

So, that is the story of how a simple-tongue became a Keeper. That is how the Jewish Keepers came to be. That is the story of Baruchi’s healing song became a love song and healed his bride.

Author's Note:

This is fiction of course.  I would like to designated it as "Creation Science Fiction."  Like traditional Sci-Fi, we seek to take real world ideas of science and extend them into the furthest reaches of possibility.  This is what we have done here but we have used the Bible as the source of ideas.  So, we have tried to make a world where nothing that happens nor anyone that exists is in contradiction to the truths of God's Word.  You must know that above all, we believe that the Bible is God's protected and inerrant Word.  We have woven together Biblical concepts with fiction in a way that may surprise you.  I am not suggesting that what happens here is true.  Obviously, I made it up.  But there are some things that are true.  You will need to examine and explore the Scriptures yourself to see if something is possibly true or not.  That is the real fun here, to see the Word of God come alive with possibilities that we might not have expected.  Let me close by saying my primary goal in publishing these stories is to get the children of God to examine the Bible more carefully and deeply.

Great writing! It makes me think of Asop or Kipling's stories... (Besides the Bible)... Thank you for such a pretty story!
