Know Thyself- some thoughts.
By Tony DeLorger © 2011
In regret we find only self-deprecation,
and the misery of failure,
honed to a point and driven into our hearts.
In forgiveness we acknowledge imperfection,
and the lessons learned in life’s course,
to better understand ourselves, our failings and potential.
In ignorance, we refuse to acknowledge the self,
the inner demon, angel and peacemaker,
all of which are the choices of life,
how we respond and express ourselves.
In knowledge we can begin to realise
what we are and how better we could become,
learning to live in the present,
taking responsibility for our words and actions,
and accepting the consequences of our folly.
To truly know oneself is a lifetime journey,
a path of pain and bliss,
the consequence of our choices
and developing character.
In vision do we see our world,
for all its flaws and inadequacies,
yet still grasp the beauty of truth and potential,
and what we could do to make it better,
to deliver us from our doubts and fears.
Know thyself and see the world a different place.
