Love's Verse

By: Wayne Brown

(writer’s note: I wrote this verse for my wife, Barbara...my love, my friend, my life.)

Those eyes, they torture and tantalize

Those eyes, they sparkle and hypnotize

Those eyes, like pools of tranquil water

Those eyes, leading me to slaughter

I am such a slave to those eyes

That smile, so attractive and alluring

That smile, a dream so enduring

That smile, glowing as the moonlight

That smile, telling me don’t fight

I am such a fool for that smile

Those lips, so full and kissable

Those lips, simply irresistible

Those lips, wet with pure romance

Those lips, saying take a chance

I am so in love with those lips

Your touch, so soft upon my arm

Your touch, full of grace and charm

Your touch, lingers like fine perfume

Your touch, leaving me no room

I am so in need of your touch

That laugh, so sweet and inviting

That laugh, so soft and exciting

That laugh, heard a thousand times before

That laugh, could I hear it once more

I so want to hear your soft laugh

Your presence, so warm and reassuring

Your presence, a feeling never disappearing

Your presence, like red wine and a warm fire

Your presence, kindling my desire

I long for the feel of your presence

Can you touch my face?

If you can you will feel my smile

My smile of love for all that is you with me

Touch it…I love you

Can you see my eyes?

If you can you will also see my love

My love burns bright each time I look upon you

Each moment we are together…or apart

Can you feel my heart?

It is beating in rhythm only for you

My heart, my love, my life, are only for you

Feel my heart…feel my love

Can you know my love?

It is the very essence of my being

My existence, my focus, my life, it is all you

Know me…know love

That is absolutely beautiful! She is a lucky woman to have a man write her poetry, and I am sure you are just as lucky to have her. All men should write their women poetry. :)

Blessings,

Laurie

@LaurieDawn...let me send you her email address so you can tell her how much she should appreciate it! LOL! Thanks much Laurie! WB

@A.A. Zavala...I've found that there are no guarantees in even marriage...you still have to work to gain the harvest! LOL! Thanks much! WB

Wayne-I am humbled and bow at your feet. Your poetry to your wife gives me goosebumps. As I sat here reading this beautiful piece of poetry, I listened to lady in red. I am in such a state of peace and relaxation and romance. Happy Thanksgiving hubber buddy:)

Your wife is one blessed lady.

@Minnetonka Twin...Yes, but I've spoiled her so much! LOL! One day she will read it and the comments too! Thanks much for the good words and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. I am glad that I could translate a verse into such a nice afternoon pleasure! Actually, in my college years, Rod McKuen was a very popular poet and singer who published a number of albums. I use to list to his poetry and think how much I would like to be able to express my feelings so honestly and clearly as he was. I think some of that experience came out in this poetry. Glad you enjoyed it. WB

Wayne, That is the most sweet, romantic poem I have ever read! Its so refreshing to see such tender expression from a man She is a lucky lady. I hope you both have a wonderfully blessed Thanksgiving!

@tnderhrt23...I sometimes mention how I like to try to challenge myself and write outside my comfort zone...this is one of them. I don't do mushy and sensitive without sound a bit insincere...so I had to struggle a bit and really let go of the emotion to get there. Thanks for the good words and Happy Thanksgiving! Be safe! Wow and you thought you 'didn't do romance'! Wayne, this is the kind of thing women dream about (like it says in your first video) and I'm agreeing with A.A. Zavala. You are in for some wonderful night(s)! Awesome job, my romantic friend!

Wayne all I will say is you da man with a lover's poet's heart. This could easily be placed on a Hallmark Card, I hope they see it and call you up for rights to print it and then with the money you make from it, you take your beautiful wife on a very erotic and sensual vacation like to Fiji, Hawaii, Tahitti or somewhere exotic like that:0)

This brilliant poem should be in every man's arsenal...Your wife is a lucky woman for sure and one who stirs the passion in you and man that is fantastic...I wish you both LOVE LOVE LOVE forever. Rated way UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Wow, Wayne...I'm thinking that's pretty dang sexy to describe your wife. What a lovely tribute!

If Bob was writing a poem about ME, it'd probably go something about my grace beyond compare, I can't believe you torched your hair.....or

You move with poetry and grace; too bad you ended up on your face.

Ah well - not everyone can be as obviously beautiful and capable of bringing men to their knees with sonnets. I bring most men to their knees with laughter.

Aside from all that....well done as always - and how lovely! I love that Chris De Burgh song as well.

@akirchner...Gee Audrey, that's the same poem Barbara would write for me! LOL! I guess I will always be more her clown than her Shakespeare but that's okay! I think? LOL! WB

You have been hiding how strong of a poetic writing skill you have WB. I know you have written somethings of prose and verse. But this one actually has the true feel of a sonnet...hints and pinings of things I had not seen before in your work. And the choice of art for your opening is elegant.

A nice addition to your ever growing body of work my fellow bard. Words are no mere animal to tame in your capable hands. Your wife is a lucky lady indeed.

Keep on Hubbing. Blake4d

Wayne Brown profile image

@blake4d...Coincidence I guess...if you took all I know of poetry and made gun powder with it...well, I doubt there would be enough for a .22 cal rifle bullet. All I knew on this one was that rhyme meant nothing and the words were everything...it just fell in place from there. Thanks for the kind words, Blake! WB

Barbara is a very fortunate woman, and I am sure she knows it and appreciates/loves you. So many women dream forever in vain about a poem like this coming from the man they love. I respect men who love their wives like this. Thanks to them women cannot totally loose their faith in the male Homo sapiens. Voted UP and UP and UP.

Wayne Brown profile image

Wayne Brown 6 years ago from Texas Author

@MartieCoetser...Thanks so much...you leave me speechless! You think I should tell her? LOL! Us men folk are very good at expressing our emotions outwardly. We don't stop and ask for directions much either! LOL...Thank you for the kind words and the up vote! WB

Your words are beautiful. The comments from the men are so telling. Your responses to them are so human and real. I can tell from your responses that you are very married and understand the dynamics of a true, committed, loving relationship. "There are no guarantees" as you put it is beautifully poetic, human and honest.

Wayne Brown profile image

Wayne Brown 6 years ago from Texas Author

@Amy Becherer...My first marriage ended in divorce much to my disappointment because I was naïve enough to believe that if you held up your end of the bargain everybody else would too. Life is not like that. My trust was really damaged in that process. Part of my feelings for my now wife is that she taught me the importance of friendship in a loving relationship. She made me realize that more than anything we needed to be best friends first and foremost for that would be the glue that would hold it all together in the tough times. In doing so, she tested me and at the same time help me to rebuild my trust. She accomplished something that I did not think was repairable. All that becomes the foundation upon which things rest and yes...I am very much married to a very attractive high maintenance woman who constantly reminds me how much I love her! LOL! Thanks for your kind words,Amy! WB

You created a work of art in that your poetry is beautiful, sincere and expresses exactly what you feel without resorting to syrupy sentiment.

Sometime I'd like to ask you about the copyright decision. Is that something you recommend for every writer?

Wow! What a lovely tribute to your wife and your love for her! You are both so very lucky . . . and blessed! It doesn't happen by accident.

Wayne Brown profile image

Wayne Brown 5 years ago from Texas Author

@Truckstop Sally...Actually I found it in a Hallmark card and just copied it over! LOL! Just kidding. This is an example of what can come forth when you really let go and let the emotions flow to the surface. We all have a lot inside but so few of us are willing to let it come to the surface and share it. Even the ugliest things can take on some appeal when coming forth in this manner. It is very stimulating. WB
