Life is Not Fair--The Same But Different--A Poem

Life is not fair

No one thinks the same way you do

Look at us here

I am different than you

You are different than me

Although we are the same

We are different

We are human

We are the same age

We come from the same family

Twins, we look the same,

Our thoughts are different

You looked to the left

I looked to the right

You saw hatred

I saw light

Walking on the street

Both so alike

We spoke later of what we saw that night

I saw a girl, flying a kite

Happy and free on a summer night

You saw a man robbing a wife,

Scared and broken on a summer night.

Years later we spoke again,

I spoke of love and unknown potential

You spoke of resentment and loss of passion.

We came from the same place

Our views are so different

We are the same , we are different

I still love the you the same

You still love me different

Cute poem. Are you a twin then? We would be sooo boring if were not so.

I would love to hear the story behind the poem. You left me intrigued and wanting more. Very nicely composed, by the way.

CC, No, not a twin...(who could put up with 2 of me) :)

Cindy, Maybe...Sounds like a good title...the many faces of k@ri...(BTW--Love your new look!) :D

Thanks Benji, I was in a strange mood. Reflecting on how we are all the same, but so very different. We all have the same needs...food, water, air, love...but we all are so different in how we respond to, and see in, the world. Even twins are not the same in reality. I need to remind myself, at times, that we don't all think the same.

Whikat, Thanks, I don't really do poetry, but I read that April is poetry month, and thought I would try.

Life is neither fair not unfair. It's oxymoronic; expects us to find our way after blinding us, wants us to hear optimistic sounds when the pain deafens ... gives us hope and then snatches the floor from right under our feet. Life has 'Issues' of its own to deal with.

Enough of my dark thoughts. *extends apologies*

Wonderful poem (no I really think so even with my darkest demonic thoughts). It's very beautiful and very deep.

'Celebration of Differences' , I like the theme :).

Interesting poem, k@ri... It's good to know that there is somebody out there still in the mindset of being able to compose poetry. I wish I was with you on that!

Thanks for sharing!

Love it, k@ri. I used to have a saying about this concept..but it escapes me right now.

Multiple personalities...hmmm. I'm skitzo, but I can't speak spanish, so the voices in my head just annoy me more than anything. ;)

Love!

G|M, You'll have to let me know your saying when it comes to you. Yea, my voices are more of the annoying kind also...hardly ever teach me anything! Just nag, nag, nag, all the time. Love back, thanks for visiting!

Nice poem k@ri . No life Is not fair . And at some point In life I started to accept that and quit fretting about It. Now my life Is the same In many ways ,however I am now OK with It . And I am glad we are all different , what a boring world It would be If we were all the same !

k@ri profile image

Tony, Thanks for stopping by! I agree, what a boring world it would be if we were all the same! I would tell my father when I was young, "That's not fair!" He would tell me, "Life's not fair, get used to it." It's the best thing he could have taught me! :D

k@ri profile image

k@ri 7 years ago from Sunny Southern California Author

apeksha, you look too young! life is never fair...that is what my father taught me. We still have to be who we are, fair, loving and noble. We deserve no less...others may, but we do not. Do it for yourself! :D

Amazooo 7 years ago

For one thing, life is not fair for all of us.

But do you know what? I am glad that life is not fair.

Cos we can learn from that.
