Life of an Immigrant Woman

Rispetto Poetry

This is a rispetto poem. This is a poem that has two stanzas with a strict rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme is usually abab ccdd. This is my first attempt at writing this type of poetry. I hope you can appreciate what it is conveying about an important issue that many people, men and women, who relocate to a new domicile experience. The poem addresses some of the frustrations of adjusting to a new country and the emotions associated with delayed transition and perceived lost of control. My next rispetto poem will be a more pleasant side of the story because all true stories juxtapose the positive and the negative experiences. Narratives about human experience should also tell of the resilience of the human spirit in spite of the challenges.

Anticipation and hopeful

Enthuse with youthful ambition

Talks of the future, not boastful

Encounters delayed transition

Disheveled in survival mode

Jungle of dashed dreams is the code

Regret, a daily visitor

She’s no longer the editor.
