Like Reliving Dodge City

Shootings, stabbing, killing, bleeding,

exhumations, complications,

grand jury proceedings,

you could almost hear the angels

in Heaven shout,

but these are the things

God worries about,

psychoanalysis

would never be sufficient,

we’re always looking for an easy out,

cause of death,

hold your breath,

it was deliberate, proficient,

our sanity drifts,

and the murdering was like work,

death in different shifts,

humanity at its best,

like reliving Dodge City,

when we tried to tame the west,

killing doesn’t need rest,

and of course

there will be no hero,

saddled on a white horse,

and you could bet,

he wouldn’t be riding into the sunset,

because while you’re looking

at the sun in the sky,

he’ll be shot to death in a drive-by.

Too true! Many of our city streets seem like war zones these days, making old Dodge City look tame. Good one Frank!

This is one of your more profound works: how good to have lyrics to match the mayhem!

What a sad commentary on one side of human life. You describe it so well in your poem. We don't seem to progress much, do we?

We had the budget Yesterday, I needed cheering, not this!

But holy s**t powerful stuff.

Give yourself a clap on the back from me.

I'll vote this up, but it needs more.

A metaphor to die for in a drive-by. How unique...Highland up theres right, powerful stuff, Frank, absolutely. Back in the old days a drunk got on a train out west and blurted out, "Take me straight to Hell!!" The conductor said, "The fare to Dodge City is two-fifty, sir."

There is more going on below the surface in this poem than in a lot of your previous work Frank...A deep rooted frustration perhaps to society's eroding values, and with no hero's to save us?!...a great read, thanks buddy:-))

I love this poem. It explains clearly how dangers of today are just as bad, if not worse than when the west was being won.

Very clever . . . using Dodge City (Love your title here) and your writing paints and oh so vivid reality here in this day. It is exactly the main reason we moved to a small town and hour away from the city in which I work, as it is literally Dodge City!!! Hey, the "bad guys" are so brazen, they no longer even commit crimes under the cover of darkness, but in broad daylight, as if to say, "Here I am . . . so what!"

Really great poem Frank.

Voted up +++ and sharing

God bless. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Another awesome poem from your talented pen Frank!! I think using Dodge City is excellent giving us a hard jolt into reality! But even your hard look at reality still has a poetic beauty and this makes it all the more frightening and compelling - there are lessons to be learned from this awesome piece of work!!

Just to say Frank - hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas and all the very best for the New Year! I look forward to reading more of your awesome contributions in 2013!!

I don't know what happened -- when I left for the beach a copule of weeks ago, Errol Flynn was comfortably ahead. When I got back, Douglas Fairbanks had made an improbable comeback. Not to mention the number of votes kept going up and down in large amounts. 25 votes disappeared at one point and then all of a sudden the final total is up to 109, nearly twice the number of any previous poll.Maybe it's connected with Blogger's other recent issues ...

Fantastic use of the vocabulary - I so much enjoyed the ride along the narrow and dangerous streets of this forsaken town. I admire your skill Frank - you achieve such a full message with exactly the amount of words needed...never too many, never too little.
