Longing for You

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

My hearts stills when I look at your face,

each line each feature, perfection,

and my soul slips blissfully into your essence,

as if I belonged within you, part of you,

your every cell my sanctuary.

I don't even know your name,

but when I peer into your loving eyes

I see God, I see all that is pure and profound,

and it moves me so, touches my heart,

and I know whoever you are, you exist.

I am lost within your beautiful face,

your soft round lips, filled with intent,

about to impart words, unimagined,

and your eyes so open and crystal,

inviting a heart to unfurl like a summer blossom.

I long to know you, to see you laugh,

to see you walk the days of your life,

elegantly, with all your challenges and triumphs,

and for you to somehow know that I exist,

a lifetime away, adoring your every second of life.

What is it between us, that your image touches me so,

are you from a past life, a lover, a sister,

that you touch me so profoundly, my heart aching,

to be near you, to be reunited, to at least meet;

I cannot erase you from my heart.

You live in the clouds of my mind, haunting me,

and each time I see you, I melt,

the warmth of my love for you weakens my resolve,

to live my life alone, knowing I am yours,

in every fiber of my being, I am yours.

Have we been here before? Will we be here again? Sometimes when you meet someone, they are so familiar, their presence so profoundly familiar, that you have to believe that this connection has substance.

Yes a soul mate seems to be a elusive dream, Maria, but what can one do apart from dream. Take care.

"...and my soul slips blissfully into your essence..."

What a wonderful poem Tony. Some people have been blessed with at least one encounter in this life finding a "soul mate" and it must be a special relationship indeed. I dream of that day but meanwhile my desired soul mate lives "....in the clouds of my mind, haunting me". Beautiful imagery and loving tone to this gem. Cheers - Maria.

Thanks Colin, a romantic I am. Heart on sleeve, continually bleeding and still going back for more. Intellect is not always as its cracked up to be. Anyway, enough about me; not sure I could deal with working night shifts, but I guess you get used to it. Because of my depression, a lot of the time I feel exhausted and can sleep about 12 hours a day ( If I let myself-which I don't) It's nine o'clock am in Adelaide, and just drove my son to work in the city (he was running late). It's a sunny 18 degrees today- nice for a change, and as I sit in front of my computer the winter sun is pouring in. Hope your weekend comes quickly my friend, and you can suck up some more tunes and have a beer for me. Take care.

Sir Tony , this lovely poetic ode must cement your lofty reputation as the most romantic man on Hubpages and I will most definitely post and link these hallowed words on my FB wall for everyone to see and read.

I just awoke from night shift sleep about a hour ago and it's a fresh, sunny and breezy day by the lake at lake erie time canada 1:56pm

I will head into the lake for a quick dip and then have a nice lunch.

Both cats are outside in all of their glory and I am sending you good thoughts and energy with two more night shifts to go and then I will have the weekend off.
