Song Lyrics - Longing for yesterday

Drive-by Yesterdays

Drivin' by my yesterdays
You're always on my mind
Hoping for tomorrow
But today is so unkind

Drivin' by my yesterdays
It helps me to unwind
Hope my only companion
But
yesterday is all I find

[Chorus]

Drive-by yesterdays
I always see the light
Though the gate is locked
Her memory lives on tonight

Drivin' by my yesterdays
It reminds me of her way
I can't wait till tomorrow
But tomorrow is not today

Drivin' by my yesterdays
She knows I'm not a threat
It's just so, so hard
To make my mind forget

[Chorus]

Drive-by yesterdays
I always see the light
Though the gate is locked
My
memory lives on tonight

I learned poetry by reading as many great poets as I could find, a lot of would-be poets too and some not so bad. Finally I think I found the primal scream, mine. Of course I started when I was in first grade. Some of my faves then were the Psalms. God, that was so long ago too. Keep writing. CC

Thanks for commenting. I read two of your poems (the Betty WWII pic and the wasted drunk) and was immediately humbled by your abilities. I went home and thought about it last night and decided not to let it get me down. It's not a contest. It's about expressing ourselves and I hope I can find a place here as you have. I'm glad you found yourself. It seems from the little I've read from you that you have traveled a tough road. Keep going; you're on the right path.

I strive for complete originality though I know everything has been said. It may be an egotistical challenge I've laid at my own feet but I don't want to offer yesterday's words to you. But... maybe we need to repeat the cries of yesterday's poets; not for our own aggrandizement but to keep the fire burning....

I like the easy, natural flow of this poem/song...I hear the echo of the Eagles in it, with a sort of wistfulness...

Life is prologue...it's the absurdities that clog up the flow...tomorrow is today...carpe diem, my friend...Larry

Thanks Maven... I appreciate your remarks... It is full of wistfulness... not a stalking song but it's about the love of a man who can't let go and believes the book of love will reopen with this woman... he lives apart from her today but tomorrow is always there...

Thank you Sofs.... yes it's from the heart... that's probably where everyone's best work comes from. You don't have to think much about it because what you write is you....
