Nightime Riders......

I have always loved to drive ....sometimes as
just in wandering destination
And in the nightime travels
the lights in the living rooms
and kitchens of homes......
send me a restless message
They have it all.....don't they
The blue shadows dance on walls as
sitcoms shift aimlessly
And the single streetlights ...... light
up the back yards .....tractors parked
at the
sides of the barns
The whining of the tires on
the blacktop through the
open window.......lulling
me into night´╗┐ rides.......
The eye's of the deer in the meadow
the moths in the headlights again
And then at once all the windows
are dark and all is at
peace.......Except for one.....
the nightime rider

I used to drive for hours and hours at night through town and country in my convertible with the top down. Since my life has never, ever, been the American norm I wondered about the families in those homes. Now I know every family and home have trials and pain. But the night time rider goes on seeking that dream. But in mind only now as I have a little guy asleep in the room down the hall and am one of those lights. As you pass by, give a short blast of the horn and I will throw a wave in your direction ahorseback.

Of Course No One knows what goes on in those houses behind closed doors...Loved this Poem, Ahorseback. Once again my Artist Friend, you've painted a Wonderful Picture in our minds. I too enjoy Nighttime Driving, I find it more Relaxing.

Hey 'Nighttime Rider', you make me want to ride with you?

When I was a little girl I always imagine what the people who's lights I would pass, what they looked like, how the were as a family, what they were doing as I passed by.

You've mentioned a mental activity that i'm aware of, driving at night, passing houses, wondering who they were, especially if it was a big mansion. I hope the Nighttime Rider finds peace. Beautiful poetry.
