Love Is Like a Rose

The rose, the queen of flowers

has thorns that sharply prick

love though not a rose

does reign over people’s hearts

when love goes wrong

it pricks just like the rose

leaving one’s heart wounded and bleeding

in the long, dark night

lying mortally wounded

the heart aches and bleeds heavy

waiting for a loving embrace

finding cold comfort

alone in the night

waiting for the morning light

like the rose

once plucked

then crushed on the ground

its petals scattered about

so the heart

battered and bruised

waits to heal

once again to feel

and like the rose

which will once again

blossom and grow

sending sweet perfume

upon the summer breeze

so the heart will begin to beat faster

and rally forth

knowing that however long

love will find it once more

Rasma, your words are full of truth and hope. You write from the heart. Your pen is the conductor's wand, leading the orchestration of words into a beautiful symphony, captivating the audience.

Good song choice. One of my Bette Midler favorites.

I like it. Roses and Love, two of my favorite things. An guy long ago instructed us to meditate on the good things. Today this poem will be in my meditation for it is one of the good things for sure. Thank you for giving it to us.

Thank you Kristen.

Thank you Ruby. It was partly this song that inspired.

Nice to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed this Ed. Yes, we cry happy and sad. The song comes from a movie with the same name The Rose.

Thank you Shauna. I've always loved this song.

You welcome Eric. I agree with you love and roses are definitely two wonderful things.
