Love Poem Unwritten

Love Poem Unwritten

I wish I had the words

to write what is in my heart.

If I could, I would define love,

our love and why it is unique;

why it is special; why it is what is missed

when either of us will be gone.

Our love poem is unwritten

and always will be for there is no plumb

for its depth, deep down to where

the real we are, hidden at times

even from each other.

Great poems I might give you

by those who thought they knew

how to describe their own love.

But they were not describing ours.

What indescribable glue

has kept us together when those

thought saner than we, could never

have stayed firm, immoveable,

devoted to the best we knew was here?

We speak a language we are still learning;

not one of words susceptible of being penned,

for we speak in gestures, expressions, touches;

memories meaningless to others,

even our own offspring.

So I leave our poem unwritten,

whose words do not yet exist,

and whose meanings no one else

but us could define before the end of time;

perhaps not even then.

Love is not just happy moments.

Others, our own even, may glimpse it for an instant before it disappears into a fog of realism. It is as fleeting as the touchless brush of a butterfly's wings.

Separate but immoveable, constant yet constantly changing, deepening, enriching as it is enriched, love is limitless or it is not love.

Defining any love is more complicated than describing a speechless sunset. Love is lived, constantly mutating, yet enduring in each new form, perfecting the imperfectable.

    What defines a true leader? It isn't just charisma and sensing their power. It isn't just making us afraid so we are mobilized. It's being true, honest, fair, up front, and out front. This Haiku examines leadership.

Very clever, writing the unwritten poem in the “margins of thought.” I think this is one of your best. Voted up and shared.

To All: This would not qualify as "Hub Of The Day," but it describes a lifetime of joy and meaning. Thanks for your visits and shared thoughts. I'm glad it resonated.

abbaelijah - Perhaps in not describing love, by doing it this way I actually have done so for more than just the two of us. I hope so.

Truly profound, but all relationships are different.
