Emptied Of Love

Emptied Of Love

Not a puppy love.

It was a full-grown dog kind;

Loyal to that first love.

Knowing to protect the home,

And where the bed would always be.

The house didn't burn down.

It just became hollow and emptied.

Old Rover sensed it before it happened.

The Mistress of the Home chose to go.

Buddy let her fly with his clipped wings.

Dogs never stop loving;

People do.

mours sshields - Thanks for commenting and scoring. Yes, it is sad to think that dogs have mastered unconditional love somewhat better than mankind has.

I think both dogs and cats have hearts of gold. They love and they don't ask for anything except love and kindness in return. Our neighbor has a Rottweiler named Tory. We occasionally give the dog scraps that he would love and when he sees us from the fence he always stands there with a sappy look on his face and wags his tail. Barks if anyone comes near our gate too. I hate it when sometimes I hear the neighbor say some unkind words to Tory. I hear him cry afterwards. Sid and him are polite to one another and when Sid is upon our outside windowsill Tory's dog house is near the fence and the two of them exchange an occasional greeting.

I love how short, to the point and descriptive this was. I've had dogs my whole life and they are loyal and true to their last breath. When a dog looks at you their eyes go right to your soul. That is love in the purest form.

That is SO right, and I think we have all been on THAT route.

Rarely do we hear of a dog turning on its owner and even then, I would question what the owner did to provoke that action. Dogs look us in the eye and peer into our soul. Their loyal dedication lasts a lifetime. I often tell younger people in relationships that are rocky that there are those occasions when we need to love ourselves enough to let go those who are toxic.

Gypsy Rose Lee - We know that dogs and cats have senses at a level that humans might wish they also had. Apparently that goes for their senses of love and loyalty, too.

aviannovice - We will address that subject more thoroughly one day, but it is all too common an experience these days.

pagesvoice - Perhaps some men became confused and thought that, if they treated their wives and loved ones like dogs, they would be that loving and loyal?

Many relationship problems occur in the young and immature. The parties involved haven't reached a level of respect for their partners and they lack that deep and undying love that seems to slip through their hands. The mind wanders, followed by the eye and ultimately they may end up wandering, as well. It's a sad commentary how people recklessly throw relationships in the garbage in search of someone or something else. My wife and I are both in our sixties and we have a plaque that reads, "Love, Honor and Negotiate," but I think it should also include, "Laugh Together, Sing Together, Respect Each Other, and Hug Each Other Tightly Because We Only Have This Moment."

pagesvoice - Too few children these days grow up in stable families where love, sacrifice, and respect prevail. Perhaps in such cases we are expecting too much from new families that don't understand that "The family that prays together, stays together."

We can add that growing up in a country which has seemingly forgotten how to sacrifice for the common good, we are expecting a lot from young couples, if they haven't seen that kind of love anywhere.

Beautiful and I loved it. Many families go through issues and this says it all.

I think you are correct--although I love my dog and my dog loves me I think

AudreyHowitt - Put your husband in the trunk of your car along with the dog for ten minutes and see which one comes out to kiss your hand. I bet it's the dog.

Thanks for the nice reception this one received. Sad now to see the scoring missing from Hubs, even the past ones.
