Lulu and the Archangel

by John Hansen © 2012

Two figures stood within the night
As rain fell down in sheets.
Their love was once, but now in ruins,
Like leaves dropped from a tree.

She cried, "Please stop, you're hurting me!"
He ignored her muffled plea.
The demon grabbed her rain soaked dress
And ripped it from her soul.

He placed one hand upon her head
And forced her to her knees.
With belt released, he tied her hands,
His fist entwined her hair.

Unrestrained his weapon rose,
He thrust it t'ward her mouth.
She screamed, "No, no, please let me go!"
He struck a stinging blow.

Suddenly, the lightning struck,
A clap of thunder rang.
From out the heavens, through the storm
The avenging angel flew.

He struck the man a mortal blow,
Then took her in his arms.
His mighty wings encircled her,
protecting her from harm.

They flew out from the raging storm,
To a starry, moonlit place.
She gazed into his loving eyes,
As he gently stroked her face.

She asked, "My saviour, what's your name?"
"Archangel Gabriel,
I've been appointed to protect,
And guard my love, from hell."

Lulu nestled in his arms,
They melted into one.
Beneath his wings, now safe and warm
She met the rising sun.

On wakening she was all alone,
She thought it was a dream.
But as her eyes fell to her breast,
A feather could be seen.

She cried, "My love, why did you go?"
A voice boomed from above
"Cherished One, I had to leave,
The earth is not my home."

"My love for you is heavenly,
I'll watch your every move.
A million stars that shine above
Display my love for you."

"But when your heart is aching
Or hardships block your path,
Just call to me My Darling,
I'll come so very fast."

Now every time she sheds a tear,
Or dangers come her way,
She holds the feather to her heart
And gazes at the sky.

Without delay, the lightning strikes,
The thunderous heavens roar,
The mighty angel plummets down
To hold his Love, once more.

End

We Are Human Angels: A Crash Course For Angelic Humans
We Are Human Angels: A Crash Course For Angelic Humans

This amazing book revealed that angels are among us and inside us all. You will be astounded by the beauty of the images and wonderful quotes.

This text accompanied the video above.

Published on Jul 5, 2013

"My wife Suzie was riding he bike up the street when the Lord sent down her Guardian Angel to protect her from harm. As you'll note in the video there is a mysterious man standing right in the middle of the driveway as she approaches from down the street. The man isn't walking in any direction but, rather simply standing in the driveway in question. He looks out down the street spotting us as we're heading in his direction. He simply waits until we reach the driveway then right after a car which almost hits my wife slams on the breaks, the man vanishes.

None of us even noticed the man while any of this was going on and he didn't even come to our attention until we viewed the footage from my helmet cam. The man was not in the driveway when we approached it but, he was there in the video. This man was sent by God, he did what he intended to do then vanished into thin air without even being noticed. The power of God is at work all day long so be thankful you belong to Him as He watches out for His own." Mike Davis

Faith, thank you for your awesome comment. I am also convinced that there are guardian angels watching over us. I have had too many calls that myself or family have miraculously escaped to believe otherwise. The video was great too, thanks.

I was moved and saddened as I began this poetic account of an 'almost' tragic, horrible attack. Then, like an angel to the rescue, - came Gabriel, the Archangel, to reduce the almost-victim from her attacker's clutches. The sweetness of it all, - and the feather to remind and comfort her, - what magnificent drama of faith!. I love it. I loved "The City of Angels" when I saw it years ago. A perfect accompaniment, with the lovely song by Sarah Mclachlan. Yes!-

AND - the video of the near-accident and the 'man' who was just standing there in a somewhat unlikely place and relaxed manner, and then wasn't there, as the accident was averted! wow!

Nellieanna, I am so glad the story of this poem touched you and gave you enjoyment. Yes, I agree with you about "the city of angel"..a heart wrenching movie that I could never get out of my mind. Wow, this is powerful, the fourth stanza really agonising. I'm thinking this is a kind of modern take on a classic tale. Most interesting and intriguing and the images are perfect to illustrate the words. Voting and thank you.

Jodah profile image

Jodah 2 years ago from Queensland Australia Author

Travmaj, I wasn't sure how that stanza would be received, but it doesn't seem to have detracted from the appeal. I am sure there is a tale in Greek mythology somewhere similar but couldn't tell you offhand. Glad you enjoyed this. Thanks for the great comment, and vote up.

awesome. I came to your site after the wonderful comment you placed on my hub. Now I am even more inspired to have such a positive comment from a prolific writer and poet. I know I made the right choice or should I say guided by my guides to HP. The feather graphic takes me back many years ago when I was at a crossroads in my life and didn't know where to turn. I had such a strange dream that seamed so real of an angel visiting me and when I awoke there was a perfect feather lying next to my bed. As if to say - 'All will be OK'. Soon after I embarked on a career path that lasted the next fifteen years and bought much reward to my life. I am glad that you have acted on your writing gifts - I'm sure it was meant to be - to give joy and inspiration to the world.

Jodah profile image

Jodah 2 years ago from Queensland Australia Author

Hi Raine, the greatest gift a writer can receive is the knowledge that their writing (no matter what it's form) touched someone, resurrected a pleasant memory, or had a positive effect on their lives. Thank you for sharing your wonderful story about your dream of an angel and waking to a perfect feather...it makes this poem seem even more real. I thank you also for your kind words and encouragement.

Thank you Jean.mMy poems have been making a lot of people cry lately.

Jean Bakula profile image

Jean Bakula 2 years ago from New Jersey

It could be me. My husband of 34 yrs. (Taurus) passed on suddenly in January, and I cry a lot lately. They say tears are cleansing. I've been trying to write a hub about how you can help grieving people, because so many people try, but do really weird things. I understand if they are friends, they are grieving too. But I'm still too close to it, and think I should stick to something less close to home.

I also haven't written here for a while because of the plagerism, though I still make some money on the old stuff I wrote. I tried all the other sites, Wizzley was supposed to be the "next, great, thing" when it came out, but I never made a dime there. I still think HP is the best site. I probably will come back.

Jodah profile image

Jodah 2 years ago from Queensland Australia Author

It must have been hard for you Jean, losing your husband recently and you need to grieve and let your emotions flow. People never know how to act or what to say. I wrote a poem called "Please, don't say sorry" about that exact thing. Thank you for reading this and I am glad it touched you. I hope you don't leave HP, it is the best community, whether you make much money here or not. Plagerism is becoming a problem everywhere, I guess we just have to live with.

Whoaa!!! What a lofty story-like romantic masterpiece here! I feel like this poem of yours should be published in books and students reading Shakespeare must read this poem of yours. It’s beyond compare… it’s just so lovely! A human Angel, who is protecting his love, and always watching her from the sky… so cute! It rhymes so heavenly, and the pictures also suit the mood. Hats off, Jodah. You are indeed very talented, and of course, an inspirational figure :)

Jodah profile image

Jodah 11 months ago from Queensland Australia Author

You are too kind Surabhi. Saying it should be available in books for students of Shakespeare to read is the ultimate compliment. This was originally published in one of my earliest hubs.
