Lungs: A Poem
One breath of you and I was gone,
I died that day and became another creature,
The metamorphosis was complete,
Your beautiful heart, my favorite feature,
I never knew true life until I saw you,
Only shallow breaths of yearning,
And then you cut me off from your oxygen,
My lungs rendered dry from the burning,
I died twice from your vibrant life,
When I first breathed you in, I let go of my desires,
But then you left, acute pain bursting my lungs,
Dismal gray, burnt from the flames of your fleeting fires.
