Make your own ultimate zombie survival pack

prepare yourself to survive the zombie apocalyose
prepare yourself to survive the zombie apocalyose

So the worst has finally happened, the dead have risen and the zombie apocalypse has arrived in full force. Many will panic and many will die, but we all know the key to a good survival plan lays in being prepared. Gather your resources now to help you get ready to survive the end of the world and 'The walking dead'...

Australian Prime Minister Announces End of the World

So when it comes to being ready there are a few things that you will need. Below is a quick list of things that you might want to consider….

Backpacks

A sturdy reliable bag that will not only last the test of time, but has enough room to carry all the survival gear that you may need to get you through. Remember, you may be on the run for weeks, or even years.

Military Molle backpack

This backpack comes with compartments galore to help you stay organised, and even has a built in water bladder so you can stay hydrated on your long runs.

Condor 3 day assault pack

The BIG Daddy of backpacks! Extra space! Extra compartments! Extra paneling! Check it out, it makes a great option for one of the 'can't do without pieces' of survival equipment. Without a bag you are left only with your pockets...

Light Source

Yes, in the case of a Zombie Apocalypse there is a good chance that we will lose power. While most people will be running off to stock up on batteries, we are going to be a little smarter than that. After all, we don’t know if civilization will ever return to what we know now, so this is one of those occasions where thinking the worst will pay off.

Check out these wonderful lights, that are powered with the just a few turns of a handle, providing hours of light without the need for batteries or solar paneling. One or more of these is a definite must have for our ultimate zombie survival kit.

Garrity power lite 3 LED Crank Light

Advertising for this light claims that its got hours of light for 1 minute of cranking making it a worthwhile investment

2 pc Wind-up flashlight set

2 for the price of one here! Where each flashlight provides 2 hours of light for 1 minute of cranking

Radio

While on the subject of not using batteries check out this super cool Crank 2 way radio, allowing you and your family to keep up to date with any broadcast being made or other survivors in the area.

Food

Ok, now when it comes to food we are only going to focus on what is going into our zombie survival pack. In an emergency you need to be able to grab your Zombie survival pack and run without being weighed down by tons of cans, that would only ensure you become zombie bait quicker than everyone else.

So that means we have to think rations that will last us, space man food and the like .

ER Emergency Ration 3600

Your going to need a few of these. Each pack lasts 3 days and is certified by the US department of homeland security... So that means it must be good!

There are many types of these food rations out there so shop around till you find the ones that suit you the most,

Also think about having a fishing line and hook put aside safely in your pack. Food is going to be hard to come by and you need every advantage you can think of.

Water

The zombie Apocalypse is here, the virus is spreading and death is everywhere you turn.

Yet still we need to find fresh water for without it we as just as dead as the zombies trying to kill us. Once you do find water, how can we be sure that is clean and safe enough to drink?

This is where thinking ahead now will again possibly save your life in the future.

Buy yourself a portable water filtration bottle, this way you can be sure that your water is as safe and as clean as you can make it, especially when getting it from an unknown source. After all... viruses have been killing us long before the zombies ever tried

Mayday emergency pouches

A great way to ensure that you will always be able to find a container to keep clean water in. These containers take less room then a box of tissues, but give you the ability to always be able to store just a bit more water.

Cooking in the Zombie Apocalypse

As time goes on the ability to have hot water and food will not only be a necessity but a luxury and even in a zombie apocalypse it can be achieved quite easy with the right equipment.

there are many types of travel and camping stoves available today but my favorite for ultimate survival would have to be the Biolite campstove

Fueled by nothing more than small twigs this stove not only cooks your meals but can also charge your phones, lights and other gadgets while keeping your warm in winter. This in my belief is a must in any ultimate zombie survival pack.

Solar power

Considering how much time you may spend in the sun, running for your life. it may be useful for you to have a solar panel strapped to you bag.

Having a way to charge certain items such as radios, phones and many other camping items can and will be a huge aid in your long term survival plan.

the amount of uses that a good solar power source could supply are almost unlimited, having the right solar kit it could change the standard of your survival.

There are many solar panels to choose from but I do believe from all reports given that "The goal zero nomad solar panel may be the best, check it and its review out at amazon

Pocket chainsaw

Now this one is a long term survival tool, helping you in a multiple of situations from cutting to wood to building snares for live food. and although there are cheaper options when it comes to long term survival you are going to want something that will last the distance.

Fire starter

Now that you have cut your wood its time to enjoy one of early mans first luxuries, fire.

Without fire you may freeze, starve or sicken, so forget the use of flimsy matches what you need in your survival kit is a flint and steel and one of the best is

Light my fire Swedish firesteel

With over 12,000 uses at just 14 dollars this jewel is a must, used by army's around the world it is known for its reliability making it a perfect addition to your overall survival

Stay ahead and out of the reach of the walking dead
Stay ahead and out of the reach of the walking dead

Hammocks!!

One way to ensure a good night sleep in a world where the dead now walk, is to take to the trees. Giving yourself the ability to rest outside of the undead reach and with a little bit of foresight you can be snoozing over the lulling moans of the undead in no time.

Hennessy hammock

Rest high in the trees in comfort ensuring that you have the energy for another full day of zombie survival the following morning. With just a few minor preparations and practice this can easily be achieved with a Hammock such as the Hennessy , check out the demo below to see how this camping hammock could be your new best friend of the zombie apocalypse

There other hammocks such as the texsport wilderness hammock that would also work but my favorite by far is the Hennessy for its ease of use, but you may also want to look into buying tree straps and extra rope (such as the SGT knots para cord) for extra support.

Night vision

Unfortunately zombies don’t need light to still be deadly hunters, with their senses honed into finding fresh food, you. They are relentless in their drive to consume living flesh.

So what does that mean for our ultimate zombie survival pack ?

Night vision

be it binoculars, goggles or head sets, your chances for making it at night rise when your able to see the horde coming for you

ATN viper night vision goggles

The best that I can find for hand free movement, be it setting up your hammock in a tree or running for your life, Don't be without your sense of sight.

check out Amazon for more range and options

Direction sense

I am not sure about you but I am not the most survival savvy, and knowing where you are and where your going in a zombie apocalypse is vital to your continuing survival.

So the north paw direction anklet kit is a great way for survival noobs like myself to navigate the dangerous world that we now are surviving in

This little anklet kit straps around your ankle (not unlike those home monitoring devices that the correction services use) and one of the 8 vibrators buzzes to let you know direction north is. There are reports that repeated use actually teaches your brain to which direction is north automatically.

Choose a sword or a large knife, it will never run out of ammo
Choose a sword or a large knife, it will never run out of ammo

Weapons

Last but not least we come to the weapons section, unlike other end of the world scenarios, a zombie apocalypse comes with violence and lots of it, you need to be more than ready.

When it comes to choosing your preferred weapons you need again to think past short term, think past the idea of being rescued and choose a weapon with a lot of reuse capabilities.

Guns although great in an emergency can be more hassle then they are worth, loud with limited use, they can cause more problems then they are worth (like alerting the zombies to where you are hiding.)

The popular choices are becoming more and more crossbows, axes, swords and knives and anything remotely medieval . go for craftsmanship over price and your weapon may not only save your life but last the test of time.

remember the little things
remember the little things

Remember the little things

Now before you sit back and relax its time to remember the little things, such as toilet paper, underwear, tampons, condoms, blankets and thermal underwear.

Pack clothes for summer and winter and remember that bare skin is an invitation for snack time to the undead that are just itching to sink their teeth into you.

Think about books that you can download to your phone or tablet both to read when laying low and how to books, after all knowing what berries are safe to eat and which ones are poisonous will help you live longer, knowing how to build snares and many other survival tips can make your transition from zombie bait to zombie survivor an easy one if you have the information available.

SO prepare, think and stay safe and if and when the zombie apocalypse strikes you will be ready!

thank you!

The end of the world or zombie apocalypse may be just around the corner, and i do firmly believe that the things on this list are not only essential items but if your prepared then you can ride out any apocalypse in style ... Or earth quake, hurricane etc

Always exploring

ah my dear friend, it was a lot of fun to put all this together it is true and I had to limit myself as I could have easily added another 10 or so items but when the end does arrive we want to be sure we have everything, i can only hope that when the zombies appear that you already have your kit together...after all nothing sucks more than the old "sold out"

sign :)

Aren't we prematurely pressing the panic button? It's still 7 months before Halloween :) one thing you forgot to mention are the candy treats that serve as deterrents to Zombie kids.:) But seriously, let's hope that the world economy improves and these items will by use only for camping and backpacking through the woods

I have no intention of pushing the panic button just yet, but there is no harm preparing for the for worst case scenario or the best camping weekend ever :)

And I have to say I am not show that any amount of candy would be deterrent enough for the zombie kids in my neighborhood to stay away :)

I am curious - Who is/was your favorite character on Walking Dead?

MobZombie 3 years ago

Daryl is my favorite. Followed of course by Rick then glen. If interested take a look at my hub, thoughts and ideas on personal survivability before, during and after the zombie apocalypse. If its ok I'm going to send people to this hub when I do my bug out bag hub.

nighthag profile image

nighthag 3 years ago from Australia Author

Oh that's a hard call

I think at the moment it is Michonne and daryl. I love how self reliant they both can be

But it has been in the past its been Rick and Carl the bond there has always been of great interest to me and someone has to make the hard calls

So hard to pick !!!!

nighthag profile image

nighthag 3 years ago from Australia Author

I love the walking dead, they have done a great job of making the characters believable which is not always easy to do in such a genre

I will of course check out your hubs and I of course I am happy to have link our pages that is a great compliment .... Thank you

Nighthag andMobzombie - Glad to hear Daryl is a favorite He is mine as well. I respect the originality of the writers on the show. You never know who is going to die, no matter how large a role in the show they play. Shane, Laurie, T-Dog - never saw any of that coming but was blown away when they "bought it". Michonne and Daryl are such bad a--es.

Again - great hub.

Hi NightDaHug:

You got me on light food, how much Pavlova can you carry ??? What about the aged old saying if you can’t beat or (beetroot)it ,then join them…red is a great colour….makes the world a deader place to visit by any livening dead. Strike a light about using a torch, haven’t we sent the world into a carbon thing by generating a universal light that is meant to get over the sun's brief disappearance. The living dead are but the living , waiting for a little the jihad to do………survival is random and random is our survival. I’d much prefer an Alien invasion where the dead are well and truly buried. Zombie Norm is a person alien in nature and definitely Archaeological , best buried in Africa…..our past fears and present danger.

ah food will be the curse of any apocalypse, so many things we will dream about only to wake up to dried rations but survival should always outweigh our taste buds, personally I'm not keen for an Alien invasion, too much technology to keep up with give me an a zombie any day :)

so glad you enjoyed this!

Heck, good ideas for everyday survival.. Zombies! I think my kid and I could last a while, but no way does mom have a chance. We would have to work double time keeping her from being eaten! LOL!

Survival in a zombie apocalypse is not always about how well you can kill(although it helps) and I just love how these items would be great in almost any survival scenario, so if the worst happens buckle down and keep ole Ma safe :)
