This was a very well written article. It's always nice to come up with a way to say thank you that is unique and special. I am working on a special project for my boyfriend for his 40th birthday next week and would like to include a poem of some kind - yes, thanking him for all he does for me, but also just saying how much I love him and in some way celebrating his special day. I want to put it with his gift as a token of love and memories. Do you know of anyone who has written anything like this or do you have any ideas where I might find something? You seem very creative, and it sounds like you definitely do some out of the box thinking - which I much admire. Great hub, and any advice is appreciated. ~Michele

Great hub and a timely reminder to everyone to say thank you! nicely compiled and so thoughtful in this world where there is a danger of not only forgetting to thank someone but equally assuming that they 'know'. Voted up and Thank you!

You're spot on regarding the loss of common decency and civility between people nowadays. Manners and civility have become a lost art for many generations.

I was taught as a child (I'm 50+)that please and thank you will get you a long way in life.

I often send thank you cards and have received some very nice feedback from those not use to this type of civility.

Wow, this is a great reminder of the need to say "thank you" to people who are helpful to us for things that are good in our life. We fail to be as thankful as we should and it also lifts the other person to a smile.

Thank you for sharing so good and I rate up.

Aloha Nellieanna - you are one of the rare gems that still take the time to write thank you notes. I have received a few myself and have felt very good - so why don't we do it more often? You are so right about teaching our children to show their appreciation. It seems it this gesture is getting lost slowly.

Thank you Aris - I appreciate your comments and glad you enjoyed it.

What an inspiring and inspired hub, Elayne! I still usually write thank you notes. It's a tradition that is hard to lose and I'm also prompted by some ghastly recollections of a few times when I didn't and really regretting not doing it. Certainly these wonderful ideas for other ways to express thanks are as good or better.

The point is, to feel grateful and let the kind person know you are. After all, the gift or kindness shown required some time and effort on that person's part and they didn't HAVE TO bother. It shouldn't be too much trouble to express one's appreciation for all that.

A good way to teach children to express their gratitude is to give them genuine thank-you notes or tangible expressions of thanks for their little gifts, including little kindnesses they show.

Wow! Who knew there were so many ways to say thanks. I must admit I have always taught my own children to write a quick thank you note at Christmas and birthdays but as they get older it gets harder to get them to do it.
